Beautiful car - and what an adventure you're having with it !

Five years ago, my wife and I relocated to EMEA for an 18 month assignment. One of our favorite things to do was to take weekend trips to see the cities & sights that Europe has to offer. Great museums, great food, lots of history & a couple Formula One races. Your pictures remind me of that time...

Keep 'em coming !

Instructors. I was the only non German speaking dude, creating somewhat a problematic situation. They did not know that an American was coming to East Germany for this event.

Cheap rental from Europecar. Manual, ez to drive. Do NOT rent from an American rental car companies in Germany. They are individually owned and almost always bait and switch.
More to come later after I take my family out for Sunday lunch.

This brings back great memories! My wife and I sat at that exact table in the Center of Excellence. Herbert was top shelf all the way.

Bob.
I live just north of LA. I only went down to Escondido MB so I can do euro del w Herbert. I wish other MB dealers near me are as enthusiastic about euro del as I am and have expertise. My fav brew is actually Heineken and any blonde ale.

It was two weeks. M school was a separate trip in 2013.
LA to Stuttgart
Stuttgart to Munich
Munich to Milan- day trip to Florence via bullet train.
Milan to Strasbourg- side trip to Lucerne, visited Konengsbourg castle and a scenic drive through Alsace.
Strasbourg to Stuttgart- back home.
I have been to all above cities, except Lucerne. So I knew the streets by the major sights. Having a navi system really helps. If I go to Europe and rent a car, I take my portable garmin pre loaded with Western Europe maps. Less than 200 bucks on Amazon. I will never drive without a navi on foreign soil without one! In congested cities like Milan, I would simply leave the car in the hotel garage and take public transportations.
Or simply walk to places to soak in the atmosphere.
Arrange museum tickets and train tickets prior to departing. Saves time and hassles on your vacation. However, you can by pass all that to simplify if you wish, by just asking your hotel concierge to arrange everything for you. Will cost you more but some of us just don't have the time to sit and spend hours to research. I do it since I consider planning fun. Herbert can help you answer most of your questions. But "part unknown" is not so bad.
Hope that helped!

Question S550

Great experience , great trip. Definitely a unique experience. Very happy for you & family.

If you don't mind me asking : were you leasing or purchasing your S ? If you leased, do you mind to share the numbers?
I am finishing my current S550 lease and going to Europe in few month so naturally interested to repeat your experience.

Can't help you there. No financing was involved. I had to wire the money when the production time was near and then paid the taxes and registration separately upon picking up the car at the Escondido MB.
This along with my Italia, I must have spent 425k plus some change. Hope my kids don't notice that their college funds have been raided! Haha. ( J/k about the kids' funds. )
You should just call Herbert and ask.

Thanks for posting all of these photos. I'll be doing a Center of Excellence delivery in a little over a week- it's cool to get a sneak peak at what I'll be experiencing. And very cool that during lunch there's an SLS and G 6X6 sitting nonchalantly in the parking area.

I have a technical question for you, is it possible for you to measure the distance between the two screws of the front license plate for the Euro del car? I'm trying to convince MB to allow me to use a tow hook mount instead of mounting the front bracket and I want to predrill all the holes necessary ahead of time to make sure it'll be a smooth install.

Also how's the weather treating you there this time of year?

This is really good information. I was wondering how you navigated to all those places and how you knew what's where. I guess the past experience and the navigation system came in handy. Did your MB have the Europe map to help you navigate everywhere? Do most European countries/cities have street addresses and POI included in the map? Is it also left hand drive in Europe? Did you have to adjust to any different driving style/experience compared to the US?

Your post is a great inspiration to do Euro delivery. Looks like everyone enjoyed it - especially your kids.

Your euro delivery car will come equipped with pre loaded Western Europe map. Speaks English as well. Once the car arrives at the port in US, the prep center will convert the map to North America.
You have nothing to worry about. Address system is a bit different but the navi is so ez to use.
Prior experience is no longer necessary due to remarkable and wonderful navi system. Place of Interest is all preloaded as well.
A friend of mine just picked up his carerra Turbo S in Stuttgart with his wife. First time in Germany and sort of new to euro vacations. Drive from there to Munich to Salzburg to Prague, back to Stuttgart and came home.
He and his wife understood why I preached about euro delivery to them for so long.
Just do it.
