"DING" TONE WHEN DOOR IS OPENED
I know, I know, yet another complaint about the W222 and "why don't you just sell the car" blah, blah, blah. But does anyone here actually LIKE that elevator sounding "DING" that is heard whenever you open the driver's door? It sounds so cheap and out of place in a car like this. I guess it is tied to that "Don't Forget Your Key" message that comes up on the display, but I find both the "ding" and the message annoying and totally unnecessary. I wish there was a way to turn them off permanently.

Someone posted something about members who once they become "MBWorld Fanatics," can't seem to ever post anything constructive, only idiotic B.S. Oh, that was me. I forgot. Never mind.

I didn't realize that this website was supposed to be nothing more than a "love fest," where all we do is heap praise upon MB and just gush over everything they do. If some of you out there feel that way, I say that's great. However, some of us feel that many things MB does could use improvement and putting them out there for discussion is the way we start the ball rolling. Every member here CHOOSES which posts to read. In the future, since you apparently don't like what I write, do yourself a favor and just skip all of mine. Problem solved.

In your case, between doors dinging, glass roofs, bad tires, no spares, inside light colors....etc, it appears that all that you have are complaints. Then added to the fact that I believe that you stated before that you have had a number of exepnsive cars bought back by manufacturers, it can seem like you are a constant complainer. You're right, nobody has to read you're posts but now I do kind of like waiting for a Nascar wreck.
Most, if not all of your complaints are about things that are obvious to any buyer before one chooses their cars. You had to know that these things were not to your liking, but you got the car anyway. That is why your constant complaints are being challenged. You had other choices.

Stream has had a previous gen S class and has mentioned concerns about the newer model that are good arguments. Run flat tires (Mercedes is now working with customers to swap them out). No spare in trunk (many are concerned about that issue) and I personally think it's ridiculous. The airmatic for the w222 wasn't re-engineered to work with run flats. They basically took the same airmatic that was on the 221 and then threw on run flats which was just a mistake. I agree with most of what has been said. Someone buying a new w222 that didn't come from a w221 may not have these thoughts, but as a long time Mercedes owner I don't disagree with his posts.
Hopefully Mercedes see's this and I bet we see a spare sooner than you think.

Stream - I don't think anyone here wants a "love fest". Most people here have shared positive and negative views on these cars, it has been a good source of information along with debate.

Regarding the cars that have been bought back from me, I would say that most people out there might have lived with them with the various problems. However, when one shells out big bucks for what is supposed to be one of the best cars on the planet, I feel that they shouldn't have to live with problems that cannot be fixed. In all cases but one, the manufacturer OFFERED to take the car back, because they could not fix the problems.
Constant complainer? Not really. I'm just a perfectionist and when I see room for improvement, I speak out. I suppose you just love that "DING" when you open your car door, right? Well, to each his own.

I do not hear the ding noise in my W221 much because I have Keyless Go. But I barely notice it when it tells me to put on the seatbelt. It's really quiet and has the same tone as in the W220 but much slower. I think it is an issue or something that it is quite or maybe it is like that because in most videos it sounds loud.

Streamliner, most of your concerns are mentioned here:

I love my new W222 but must admit, I find the warning "ding" out of character for this car. I noticed it the first time I got into the car for a test drive. Over time I'm sure it will fade into the background as I become accustomed to it. If the software allowed it to be toned down I'd have it done. This certainly isn't enough to change my opinion of this car. This is one outstanding piece of machinery. I've owned just about every model in the MB line. The W222 is the best yet.

Just went outside and had a look and I can't hear a ding noise. Is it because mine is Euro spec? Can you describe this noise, or are there any videos on youtube?

The W222 is the best new car for me at this time. As stated in other posts, I like it, but will probably never love it the way I loved my W221. Who knows, when the mid-cycle refresh is done, maybe I'll love one of those.

Or is it the one following the initial ding:

And last question, if you put the key in and don't start it, which ding do you h ear?

I'm with Streamliner. When I opened the door in the showroom and heard whatever that noise is supposed to be I immediately thought I wouldn't buy the W222 until that noise can be turned off. To me it reminds me of the windows Tada when it finally booted. It should not be a noteworthy accomplishment to boot a computer nor should you need a noise to let you know that there are systems turning on when you open a door.
It is just a door. No noises are needed.
They lost my business on a new W222. I got a great used W221.

Not trying to be combative here, but clearly one could imagine there is more to this story, because nobody can honestly say the W221 overall, is a better car than the W222. That would be delusional.
Again, no disrespect meant.
