Anyone Changed Brake Pads to Avoid Black Dust?

One thing I miss about my Lexus LS cars, was the fact that they produced virtually no brake dust compared to the amount my S550's make. Why Lexus can solve this problem but MB can't or won't is irritating. Has anyone here changed to brake pads that significantly reduce the amount of brake dust, without incurring other problems such as squeaking, etc.? I hate the dust, but don't wish to open up a can of worms with warranty problems either.

Avoiding Brake Pad Dust

I posted on 3/14 asking if anyone had checked on ceramic brake pads for the 2015 S550.....

I have checked the Akebono web site several times and they do not list pads for the 2014/2015 S550....

I had used them on my 2000 740i BMW, and my 2003 SL500.....no dust, and no other problems.....both cars were out of warranty when I had them changed, so I really am not worried about brake warranty problems with MB....from everything I was told about Akebono thier warranty is better than MB....

Guess I will just sit tight until I get other information.....hope some one on this forum has better luck searching than I have...but my patience grows thin as the dust is a giant PIA...

Have owned 4 Lexus LS's.....that was thier saving grace....

More Information

Just called www.racingbrake.com...... spoke to a most engaging fellow.....Mike!

They make a pad......the one I asked about is for street use with OEM rotors....PD1149-35, and from everything we discussed he felt that I would get the same performance from them as I had from the Akebono pads on my previous cars.

As soon as I can get to my mechanic in Illinois next month I will have them installed.....My dealer here in Florida has already informed me that they will not do it.....and the dealers in Illinois....forget it.....

Hope this helps someone...

I'm surprised you are seeing dust on the W222. While I installed new brake pads on my W221 (it has 115K+ miles so I don't need to worry about warranty), my W222 doesn't produce any dust - kind of a relief, actually

Streamliner, the questions is, does your 222 produce as must dust as your 221 does? The 221 is horrible.

I would say they are about the same. The simple, beautiful, 18” 5-spoke wheels on my 2013 didn’t seem to hold the dust as much as the more complicated wheels on either my 2015 or 2018.

I had ceramic pads installed on my S450 a while back. A huge difference. The rims look clean after several weeks of driving where the OEM pads had the rims looking black! If I rub my finger on the rim there is still a little dust but it is very light colored and does not show.
I went to BrakeWorld for my pads and got the DiskItalia Hyper Ceramic which they claim are the best. Expensive but the wheels stay clean looking. Also the ceramic are supposed to last longer that the OEM versions.

Expensive? Are you talking about this: http://www.brakeworld.com/brakedetai...-hyper-ceramic

If so , that is dirt cheap to get rid of this problem. I am going crazy with all the brake dust. Is it really so easy and cheap? Is the price for one or four? What about car warranty?

The pads were $355.00 for a full set. I don't have the tools to do the install so I used a local speciality shop that did the install for $300.00. You will also need a set of wear sensors which are inexpensive. The shop got therm for me for about 20 bucks.
I'm not sure about warranty issues. I will take my chances. These are much better than the OEM parts so I think we should be treated fairly if a problen arrises.

Well, most aftermarket pads like akebono would be maybe $140 total for set of 4, so this is prob why. I can see if I can get setup as a dealer and see if I can help you guys out with a lower price?? Or are you happy with the $355?

Ceramic pads

i also bought the Disc Italia Hyper Ceramic pads at brake world back in April. Cost was 355 for set of 4. Tremendous difference in brake dust. You will be glad if you get them. Never had squeaking noise or anything with the new pads. They even seem to be sharper pads than OEM.

Go with Disc Italia Hyper Ceramic. They have them for Front and Rear and come with all new hardware. And they support the factory sensors.
