S Class tips & tricks
Hi all,
Thought I'd start a thread so I could learn from all of you little, ( not so obvious ) tips and tricks regarding our car.
I'll start with one I learned by watching someone do a YouTube review of his S550:
If you push your foot down hard on the brake pedal, it puts the car in a " hold " mode. Touch the gas pedal and it takes it out of this mode.
Anyone else?
Steve

On the drivers side door, there are two buttons that control heating and ventilation for the drivers seat...next to those two buttons is another one with a picture of a seat with R: in front of it.
Push this and you can now control heating and ventilation for the passenger seat.

This is not completely correct.
My '14 S550 4matic was like what you just described while my '16 S550 4matic is like most cars with the stop position at the intervals you described. They changed this somewhere between the '14 and '16 model years.

Just checked my '15 and it does not have stop position intervals. Pretty cool little feature! Guess it changed in 2016...

That IS strange. BMW did the same thing and got rid of that feature on their 7 series. The previous gen 7 had the 'door stop' feature at any position, but when the new redesigned 2016 7 came out it no longer had that. I wonder why Merc and BMW stopped offering that.

I just discovered that by twisting the DTS Assist lever you can change the following distance of the vehicles in front of you! Don't know how I read over that bit of info. Now I can blame tailgating on the car itself.

Pretty obvious but the best way to open the boot (with the key in your pocket for example) is a smooth kick just under the center of the back bumper... not too fast, not too slow, dont hit the car.... same to close.
once you get the hang of it it is actually useful

For heating the armrest and panels
I couldnt get the panel and armrests to heatup so I read the manual. You need to have heated seats active for them to work. Go to vehicle settings and select panel heating and pick the option you want. Once you turn on your heated seat the panels and armrest will heatup. If you have that package of course.

Control Everything!
I have a 2014 S550 and I have the "R" button which controls the passengers seat heater. Heaven forbid the driver would have to tell the passenger what the button on their door with the 3 dots functions as.

2014 S550 I save the Massage Seat in the FAVORITES key position 1 (phone keypad), you can set the passenger to 2 etc.... I customized all the buttons to the useful items I will use, AKA shortcuts...

You can turn on both the Heated and Cooled seat buttons at the same time. Kind of Dehumidified heating of seats. Heat is on and you get airflow. Remember the cooling feature just pushes air through the seats, it is NOT cooled like some other cars.

Go to Sys
First goto Export Trigger and Emergency Log and set everything to ON. All this does is allow for the COMMAND to export everything that is happening, and set it to USB or SD Card.
then Allow CAN Trigger.
Select
Select Allow Trigger Key Eco. Drive around for a bit do whatever. Then press the ECO Mode Button and you'll get a red line along the top of the command display saying "trigger writing..." This means it is exporting whatever log files it has gathered and copying them to your USB or SD Cart so that you can view them using a computer.
What do these log files show??
It shows that the car is sending information to a server in mexico city. 201.151.75.137 which seems to be a company that provides a vpn service that also has a invalid certificate which is probably why the internet sucks in the car. https://www.pulsesecure.net . https://201.151.75.137/dana-na/auth/....cgi?p=no-cert

Seems to be running some type of linux operating system called QNX which is developed by RIMM or blackberry. Seems that every major car manufacturer is using this for new cars. Shows a lot more.

Found this little tidbit...
If you have any windows rolled down, and you are riding behind a smoky exhaust truck or car, hold down the recirculation button, it will close all the windows including the rear. After your in the clear again, hold down the button again and it will open the windows to the exact position they were prior to closing them... Cool....

New Tidbit, need to try it out.... Turn on traffic announcements, now when they get annoying, press and hold the mute button, you should hear a beep to stop all traffic announcements, press and hold again to reactivate. No need to go into the nave menu to turn on and off.. Cool if this works...
