Question Tire recommendations

Good morning all,

The time has come to replace the factory OEM tires on my 2015 S550 4MATIC. I like the original Michelin MXM4's but according to the dealership, Michelin has replaced the MXM4 with the Pilot Sport A/S 3+.

Does anyone have experience with the Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Is it a good replacement tire? Pros/Cons? If not the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ then what would you recommend as a viable replacement?

Thank you MB Friends
Stuart

The Pilot Sport A/S 3+ is a wonderful tire. I put a set of non-run flats on my 2013 SL550 and ride quality and noise are much improved over the OEM run flats it came with. On my 2014 S550, with 18" wheels, I absolutely swear by the Bridgestone Serenity Plus non-run flats I have on there. I have had several sets on various cars, and they are the smoothest, most quiet tires imaginable. I just LOVE them! I do, however, carry a compact spare and a jack in the trunk, just in case.

Your dealer is wrong about the MXM4 ZP tires. This is an OE tire.Being a tire nerd,if you want to stay with a run flat this is the best option. This is a Grand Touring tire, more comfort, less limit handling.Pilot Sport A/S is an Ultra High Performance tire, more handling at limit, fimer ride. All tires are a compromise.Check out all tires with user reviews at Tire Rack.com.Allways road force balance to grams with RF numbers below 15.You will be pleased.

What do you mean when you say "Allways road force balance to grams with RF numbers below 15.You will be pleased"? What are RF numbers? Thanks for your feedback.

I'm sure this road force balancing is great, but I've bought so many sets of new tires, always using the standard, tire shop balancing and I have never had a problem.

Road force will show if a tire or wheel is out of roundness tolerance. It also matches up high and low points on the tire/wheel combination. The quality of the assembly is then indicated by the road force number, the lower the better.Under 15 is best. If u then balance to 2-3 gram tolerance you will have the smoothest most vibration free ride possible. If you are not doing this you may not know what you're missing i.e.incredibly smooth ride.
