Dip Stick Mystery....
Ok, I'm not going crazy.... After car has been sitting for a day, when I check the Dip Stick, it is bone dry. After inserting and removing again, level is registering and perfect.
1. Car is cold and not started for at least 1 day
2. Yes, the dipstick was seated all the way.
3. Can recreate the issue.
I just cant figure out how this is possible..... Very strange... I saw another post where the owner thought his oil was severely low and added a quart then rechecked.... He should now be about a quart over....
Any ideas....

Before adding any oil to the car.. first, recheck the dipstick like you did to make sure there is any oil in the engine. Next thing to remember is that there is a procedure for checking the oil per Mercedes. The engine must be at normal operating temperatures ( > 80*C), you cannot correctly check the oil level with a cold engine. After the engine is warmed up, you must turn the engine off and it must be off for at least 5 minutes before you can accurately check the level with the dipstick. If you think the oil level is low and your engine and engine oil is cold, you will just end up over filling the engine.

Mercedes oil dipsticks are color coded when to check level.
Red, means check at normal engine oil operating temperature (takes a while to get to motor oil to at least 185 deg, unlike coolant temperature).
Blue/Grey, means check at cold engine temperature.

Crap my 2016 Maybach does NOT have a dipstick. You sit in the drivers seat with the eigine off and have the computer check the oil for you. I am not kidding. If it runs low it will tell you to add whatever amount is needed. Crazy.

My last Porsche 911 was the same. No dipstick, purely digital through dash. 2013 991.1

My 2007 Porsche Boxster S as well. All reported by the computer, not a dipstick. A bit overkill but I suspect given how the mid engine design works it would be tough to provide a dipstick in a reasonable location.
