2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
lot, the 2016's right now are up there pretty good like over 80 grand because the lease cars have not been turned in yet. Mid to upper seventies is a good guess depending on the miles
the car has on it.

I'd say next early summer off a 30 month lease. The good thing with the MY16 is you get the apple car play and a few other things. I got a '15 a few months ago and really like it a

I think Remote Start became available in MY16, not available for prior MY?

Not sure Carplay was introduced in 2016 S Class. It is not listed on Apple or anywhere else. I believe is it new for 2018.

I was wrong looks like no car play, thought I'd read it somewhere the 2016 had it, guess not. I think the only thing the 2016 has over the 2015 is the remote start feature through Mbrace and I think the available color heads up display option that was $990.00 Other than that they are the same.

I just pickup up a 2015 has the heads up display, only driven it a couple times (parts on the way to install the thick 3 spoke AMG steering wheel I do not like the feel of wood wheels), but looked at a 2016 (had a lot less on it than the one I bought). I could not see any difference at all, I have carplay in other cars don't like it, dont use it, but can see the appeal for those who do.

Why is remote start "reasonably worthless'? I have remote start in other vehicles and it is truly worthwhile! Is there something about the way it is implemented by MB that makes it worthless?

IMHO it is not “reasonably worthless” although I have lowered my standard on the software/internet IPhone based app remote starter function on my ‘16 S550. It works about 70% of the time and not 100% of the time like it should. With that said, some people think the internet radio is a joke. I use Iheart radio and TuneIn radio on a daily basis and it is awesome. Of all the media types played on the Burmester standard system, it has the best sound quality of all. In fact, if the internet radio is used it rivals the 3D Burmester sound system. It brings in the absolutely best sound quality. I can get the doors to rattle with the bass without the 3D system with internet radio. The 3D sound system was about the only item I did not order on my $138k MSRP ‘16 S550 4matic. I am glad I did not spend the $6400 since the standard system is so refined if adjusted properly and used with the internet radio.

The reason for my opinion is simply that the remote start option, while nice for many is a minor option. The issue, just like the stated Internet radio has been the implementation of the features. German automakers live too far away from Silicon valley to understand that software features need to be reliable, fast and easy to use.
Remote start should work easily and quick as people assume that the app on the phone actually communicates with the car 10 feet away. It just doesn't. It communicates to a server in Germany, manages identification, authorization and then the server sends the command to the car. Given the relatively old network connectivity in the pre MY17 cars that command may not make it to the car, hence the less than 100% success rate.
Plus the time limits that's part of the remote start feature (how long the car runs and how often the remote start can be repeated). So, for me this feature seems not beneficial enough to get choose a MY16 over a MY15. MY17 with LTE Internet or MY18 with Apple CarPlay make access, especially for Internet Radio so much better...

My guess is it's not the hardware but the software that needs improvement. If MB wants to improve it, they will spend the resources to improve it. Who knows!?
Anyhow, I have Remote Start on all my vehicles and mid August or mid January in the northeast . . . it makes a difference!! But as you said, value is dependent on the person making the judgement!

I assume the remote start on my Coupe is the same as the sedan. There are two thing I HATE about the MB remote start.
1. It takes too long to start. From the time you send the command it can take anywhere from one to two minutes before it starts. With my Vette, when I am ready to leave work I start the car and start my short walk in the parking lot, get in, and drive away. I can’t do that with my S550.
2. The car shuts off as soon as you touch the handle... Why? I don’t get it? It’s stupid, it’s annoying, and there is no logical reason for it to work that way. I have the key fob, so the car can easily discern that it’s the owner and not some random dude trying to steal a car.
