Looks like an afterthought that takes up most of the space in the trunk.

A car
I was told a RWD S class can indeed fit a spare tire under the trunk floor. The NYC Manhattan Mercedes dealership told a friend who told me. Apparently they still keep a spare due to the NYC roads being so bad. I'm fairly certain it's one of those collapsible spares, but it's the first time I've heard this. Thoughts?

I know I will regret saying this but I am not that concerned about running with RFT and no spare. I have been driving for over 30 years and I don't think I have ever changed a tire on the side of the road. I have picked up nails that cause a slow leak but never had something that caused me to get out of my car and change to a spare that I can remember.

You are every lucky! Two weeks ago I picked up a "15 from a NYC dealer and they had to fix something in the car the next day. They drove out a new C class with about 400 miles on it. The next night I hit an unavoidable pot hole on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. Completely blew out the side of the tire. Drove it home about 15 miles. The next day called continental looking for help in getting a new one locally. No one had any. The only place was a MB dealer cost was about $450 installed. The manager told me he wasn't allowed to work on the car since I am not the owner. Said to me call the dealer they probably wouldn't even charge me since we al know NYC roads are bad in winter. Helms Bros was then called and they said don't worry about it. When my car was ready the driver drove the car back to dealer on the blown out tire. I couldn't believe they would let the driver dot that, seems like to much liability to be exposed to. I had driver send me a pick out the tire when he got back. About 25% of the sidewall was gone but he made it back.

As far as I have been able to ascertain, there is not a collapsible spare on the market that will handle the weight of the W222. When I lift out the insert that is under the trunk floor and get right down to the metal “tub” of the car, there is a tank of sorts in there that obstructs the placement of even a collapsible size spare, if one was available. Anyone know what this “tank” is for? Maybe for the MBC? Anyway, as posted in other threads, here is a photo of my W221 spare sitting on top of my trunk floor in my S560. It does take up a lot of space, but provides tremendous peace of mind. I find the cover and tie down to be a bit much, so I passed on that.

Direct link to the 2 min mark:

Also, it's a S350, so they know you're going to be doing many more road trips with that diesel
