No Head-up Display ?
I went into my local deanship this week to order a new 2019 S-Class S560V (rear wheel) - loaded. I was told that MB is not building any S-Class cars between now (July) and December with Head-Up displays. No Head-up displays! I find this hard to believe. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Could be any number of issues. My guess is the vendor, for whatever reason, is unable to meet the demand. I know this is not the response you're looking for, however, hopefully someone closer to the source of the problem can provide insight.
The last time I experienced a similar situation it was caused by ongoing litigation between the vendor and the automobile company.

I had to go through a major delay with my 2018 S560v4 order due to the Head-Up display. It was due to part shortage, and they tried to talk me into removing that option from the order. I did not. So it took a solid 5 months to get the vehicle delivered from the order. I assume a similar thing is going on with the 2019 MY as well.

I respectfully disagree. HUD is one of the best options I have on my vehicle (and I have all except the 3D sound and the fridge). Once one gets used to it, there is no going back. And the technology has been improving at a rapid pace as well, so it is night and day relative to the ones I had before.
I chose to wait to get the option, and that was the right decision.

My understanding is that this is tied to the supplier issue (plant fire) in Michigan that affected the Ford F-150 production shutdown some time ago and is now affecting many if not most auto manufactures on some level. I am not 100% sure of this but the issue came up when I place my order in June for my S63 that is going to take 6 months to be built and they were having difficulty getting all of my options and they referenced the Michigan plant fire as a constraint on my build specifically the HUD.

Since 1989 all my cars have been equipped with hud. Wouldn't be without it.
Agree, the M-B hud is far from optimal...not displaying critical info. But, its better than nothing. M-B engineers need to examine a Corvette C7 hud to understand what a real hud is capable of.
When driving I pay almost no attention to the instrument cluster but instead get all my info. from the hud. Except for important parameters such as fuel quantity-no hud display ect.

I love the HUD. Just got my 2018 S63 after 5 months of wait. I liked it in the 2015 s63 and like it now.

I have driven cars equipped with HUD. It's a cool accessory or item to me but not a deal breaker to me at all . I find it more useful to have cars fitted with hands free trunk release in my daily basis

I love me HUD, like to keep my eyes on the road. Hands free truck close and open function is also very useful when you have your hands full.

I have a HUD for my 2016 lease and I love it. I ordered my 2019 s560 and it is at the dealer with the HUD in it BUT MB won't release 2019 vehicles until Sept supposedly (or till 2018 cars are less) so it is literally sitting there gathering dust! ARGHHHHH.
I agree I would totally wait for the HUD! Although I have to warn you if you have polarized sunglasses during the day, you cannot see it! I am hoping the 2019 technology will be better than the 16....

All the prior HUDs I had experience with had issues with polarized sunglasses. You would not be able to see anything. But my 2018 S560v4 has a HUD that is quite visible with my polarized sunglasses. It is not 100% by any means, but if I have to quote a percentage, I can easily say better than 60%...

You will love it over the 2016. Just hang in there. Although I really do not understand the point of making the customer wait like this. At the end of the day, they let you order the vehicle to your specs, and built the car and sent it over. And it is not like it is a completely new body style or anything like that (although I think there is one new color offered with the 2019 MY, but I do not think that would be a deal breaker). Would there be any cheese down the tunnel for you to talk with MBUSA folks directly on this?

What! You have got to be kidding. Your car is at the dealer and you cannot take it home until September? That's crazy. So, I may have the same fate. My car will be here no later than next week. That's probably why the dealers do not yet have the 2019 lease rates. Wow! I'll let you know the status when I gather more info from the dealer.

Just like others have said, it's not like waiting will make me want to buy a 2018 instead of getting my custom ordered 2019!? And the '19 is not a total redesign so even if they want to keep the 19's look secret (off the freeways, etc) it's not like people would be able to tell. It just makes no sense. ARGH.
On the bright side, I am happy to not have a delay for the HUD. That is one add on I have enjoyed on 2 rounds of cars already (BMW and the s550) and desperately wanted again. Thankfully maybe because I did my order in March or April, I guess I don't have to wait for it. It is especially helpful in the turn by turn directions to get to my destination.

I would search the entire country and see if I could find a 2018 with everything I wanted (or close). Then I’d make a super lowball offer. I bet you will be able to save many many thousands over a 2019. They obviously cannot get rid of them.

I've already gone through that process a couple months ago. There was no 2018 with my specs anywhere. I will not accept a car that does not have the exact specs I want. If I remember correctly, one of the options I wanted was the HUD and it was not available. So, I'm willing to wait and pay more. Hopefully, it will be sooner than September.

Must be different polarization values in the glasses themselves - my glasses (3 pairs) did not work with the HUD in my 2015 and do not work in my new 2018. I can barely make out that the HUD is on and need to turn my head to make it the least bit usable. I still keep non-polarized glasses in the car for that very reason.
