K&N Air Filters
#3
Buy the ones from Weistec or Renntech. iI have the Weistec ones and they are shorter that supposedly allow more air flow.
Im not sure if the scam is that K&N don't work or if they do? There have been so many tests that prove the opposite. Look at it this way if you keep them clean more often vs having to swap out OEM your better off anyway. I do not believe that they hurst flow as again any tis is only as accurate as the variables used and that can be swayed either way.

Recommendation.... If you are not going to follow the cleaning procedure by the book, you will foul your Mass Air Flow Sensor and cause more grief... If you are not racing the car and do not have other modifications to make your car go faster, stick with a Clean Set of OEM and swap for fresh every 2 years. The engine management systems in newer cars can deal with a dirty filter pretty well, and will compensate with minor adjustments. The gain in general will be unnoticeable to most if not all. Remember, you can do more damage if you do not CLEAN and OIL according to the manufactures recommendation, and still risk oil contamination. 2 Cents...

Thanks for the info guys, I read on another forum that the Weistec filters can just be shaken and vacuumed when dirty and reused again, any one know if this is correct

Thanks for the DIY with pics however, with all due respect, the fuel effects you mention are simply not possible. Yes, you can get more power with these but replacing air filters to gain fuel economy is a myth. There simply isn't the best of both worlds- i.e. more power and better fuel economy. The more air, the more fuel you need to combust it. It just cant run leaner (less fuel to air) and also give you more power- it just doesn't work that way. Plus, the ECU will adjust the fuel to air based on what's coming in from the air intake. Sorry to bust your bubble, but if fuel filters could give more power with less fuel usage, then manufacturers would ship the vehicles with these type air filters in them in their quest to meet new EPA mandated minimum fuel economy standards. Sorry but I just had to post since this is a very common misconception..

Again broad statements like they don't work or they are perfect are what causes problems and misinformation. I drive to Palm Springs a lot and will tell you the filters are always full of sand from desert driving. Sometimes my entire car is full of sand. To me the benefit is having filter that is easily cleaned and can take being blown out with compressed air.
Do they increase HP? Maybe as you can visibly see their claim of not blocking the air box. Do they flow more? I have no idea but again they do appear to be of better quality and fit perfectly so in my situation they are a win win and if they add a couple hp or miles why not. For my situation they work.
If a fuel injected engine pulls in more air it can create extra hp or better economy depending on how its driven and the engine compensating either way. Is it enough to feel? Thats for you to decide!!!

Thanks for the info guys, I decided to go with the Weistec filters, hopefully I get a little more performance and sound when added with the Remus exhaust I ordered

Will do for sure, the right side Remus exhaust had to be shipped from Austria so might take a week or so to reach me
For now I just ordered the axle back Remus exhaust the tech said it will still sound good, but if not loud enough I can order the silencer later
Here is a link to a guy who did the cat back Remus exhaust

The way I understand these new cars with electronic fuel injection, O2 sensor and the air mass sensor is, no matter what filter or how dirty the air filter gets within a year, the computer will adjust the amount of air as needed. Eventually the filter will get so dirty that you will have to replace it, but don't let it get to that point or the car will shut down. I know, believe me I know... In conclusion, use a quality air filter once a year and "forget about it". If you really think that an air filter will give all that extra HP, then I've got a bridge to sell you. Can you really tell if your engine is producing an extra five HP's? C'on? To really get extra HP's you have to begin with reprograming that "chip", and then the list goes on and on... If you wanna just have a reusable filter, then I guess you can justify it, but personally, I'll just trusting those little German engineers with their thick glasses, pocket saver, TI calculators and slide rulers to tell which is the best air filter for my car. LOL
