Question W124 300E Performance Increase

I want more HP. Has any one any advice if I dont want to go to AMG etc. What stops me from going and having a gas flow and cutting the cam ? Also what brake ans suspension upgrades are there, I am happy but more can't hurt.

For the suspension you can probably get either H&R or Eibach springs and Bilstein or Koni shocks. I don't think there are any engine upgrades for the W124 300E.

Pistons maybe(really hard to find)? Or a turbo kit? These are very expensive. You can also upgrade your entire exhaust system. Go to a professional to make you one.

Turbo or supercharger with stand alone injection. Check out mercedesshop Pumpish has a pretty high output m103. If you stick with stock injection you can do a turbo or a centrifugal blower with a bypass, up to 6lbs of boost with some modifications. If you drop the stock injection and go stand alone then your options are more. I run 9lbs on a stock m104 block which is basically the same thing.
The pistons are the weak link. Go forged and low compression and sky is the limit.

Alot.
Save up some money.
Buy a Welder
Buy a V8 of your choice
Buy gearbox of your choice and things needed to go with.
Put V8 in engine bay.
Twin Turbo V8.
Call a Coilover company of your choice and get some custom coilovers made for your setup.

Resurrecting older thread, where would one find headers, exhaust, TB etc for the M104 for a mild (say 15-20%) power bump? Will C36 engine parts fit?

Jerry

Bekkers has 104 headers, they are pricey though.

Thanks! You are right, Renntech style pricing! Given the fair number of M104's, not sure why price is so high.

Not true. Done right its a great motor. I have done 300k on one and I know of two cars right now with 350k plus miles and both are driven like they are stolen. One see regular track events with 45 minutes of flat out driving.

Not many motors with original bottom ends can do that at 350k miles. Both had have valve seals replaced but thats about it.

It you take care of a M103 it will take care of you.

What does happen is that cyl 6 does not get enough cooling and oil and it will suffer worn piston rings first and you can see head issues in 5 and 6 but that just means compression will be a bit lower in those cylinders.

Don't discount the KE-Jetronic III fuel injection.
If you know how it works you can do some amazing things with it under boost.
Ask the man who owns one, and a very, very fast one at that

Well... I'm asking ! Can you help me with a source of good information so that I may learn more about the system? It seems that with the w124 chassis it's almost impossible to find a tuner program or device because of the OBD 1 system. I was beginning to be convinced that it's impossible to do anything other than a complete stand alone fuel injection system. I'm really not interested in adding boost and having to go to a tuner to finalize the setup where I'm going to be in a situation having to return there any time there is any issue. Thanks fur any info.
