Patrick's 160 Deg. Thermo Results

I got one of Patrick's 160 Degree Thermo's and finaly was able to put in the car. It is an easy install with 2-10mm bolts. I did not loose much water during the install.

In the gargage, with the old unit, I would hit 196-199 deg. in no time. With the new unit I sit at 180.

In Austin TX it is still 92+. What I have found is that the MB is pretty air locked up front. As such, the fans are key tocooling. I found is that the car runs a lot cooler for a long time, but then begins to move up until it hits 200 (that is in stop and go traffic). At 200 is runs back down to 190. The reason is that the fans kick on.

In summary. The new thermo is great and a needed part for my supercharged car. In any HOT temp it is a good thing. However, you probably still need to find a shop that will lower the fan turn-on by ~12 deg. as per one of the threads in the forums.

Tonight I checked out the timing with my OBDII. With the car running at 185 and not the 195-200 the timing is pushed up what looks to be about 3-4 degrees. That alone is worth 10-20hp.
