2003 CL/SL 55 Upgrades??
Hi,
I will be taking delivery on my 2003 CL55 in a few months but was wondering if any aftermarket companies are doing any type of upgrades at all for the 500h.p supercharged engine. Now I understand why people will be looking at this post and saying "Why does that numb nuts want more power?", but I simply feel a few minor mods from these companies can easily add on a good 50-60 true h.p. If anyone has any information from Kleeman...etc....just let me know, id greatly appreciate it.

Ther is never enogh hp and torque... trust me. My CLK (at 3300 lbs) had 500 hp and 47o lb/ft torque and I thought it needed more. You should give Evosport a call (888-520-9971). They are always up to date on the latest modifications available for Mercedes.

Couldnt get through to Evosport, but talked to Kleeman in Colorado Springs.
They will be releasing a supercharger replacement for all the v8 compressor models. Prototype is already being tested in Denmark and will be released in January to the U.S. 610h.p. total!!!!

Thanks Ben. I wrote down your extension number and you should be hearing from me soon. Just let me know if you find out any more information about Kleeman's upgrades for the 2003 supercharged V8.

Subaru WRX; C32 one day
Sleestack, you stated that these cars are already supercharged and that it will be hard to get 50 more horsepower. I think it is the exact opposite. On cars with forced induction, a supercharger in this case, a chip, pulley, and exhaust should give quite a bit of power. Also, you are not upgrading a WRX here (we have week transmissions and crappy brakes). These cars have superior internals, incredible brakes, great transmissions, etc. I say go for another 100 hp (not that you need it, but...).

Kleemann is making a replacement SC which makes sense, however, 50 extra hp out of the stock setup is going to require some work (perhaps exhasut, cams, or computer, etc.) I know that turbo and SCed cars can get significant power gains by chipping, however, despite the integrity of Mercedes components, I'm not a huge fan of the shortcuts that most chips take.

Upgrading the new SC 5.5L is at last going to yield some resonable and cost effective HP gains on the V8 AMG engine. However these will be nothing like the gains seen from turbo cars where it is far easier and cheaper to dramatically increase boost and intercooler capacity.
The stock SC on the new AMG can be used with a new chip, pulley and ideally an additional intercooler, Brabus have already done this for the SL55. You can undertake the mods yourself, with better power gains for SIGNIFICANTLY less money. This should yield something in the order of 50-75hp. I will be doing this on my E55 when it arrives and will probably spend less than $5000 US to do so.
From what I understand the Kleemann instalation will yield more power because of a more efficient SC design (less heat-greater charge density - more power) and more efficient intercooler (less heat - greater charge density -more power) than the factory AMG units. To equal the power of the Kleemann instal may be possible, but it would primarily involve supplementing the stock SC chargecooler/intercooler capacity rather than dialing in more boost. Also are the Kleemann numbers based on tuning for Euro spec fuel?

The KLEEMANN spec is not for Euro Fuel. The 5.5 (actually 5.4) will make 610 anywhere in the world, save high altitude locations, where every engine is down 18%. In europe, they can expect to see as much as 640 with thier higher octane fuel.

If Kleeman wants a CL55 prototype vehicle....just let me know.
