will removing the resonator affect any of the emissions output? i want to get more sound by removing the resonator, but i want to be able to pass smog tests and most of cali's strict standards.

The resonator does not effect emissions.

It depends who does the work. Technically, at the wrong shop, you could run into HUGE problems with any modifications. The resonator is located in the middle of the car. Look underneath, you will see a rectangular can. The 2 cans closer to the front are your cats, do not remove those!
