Question Flowmaster is getting installed unless convinced otherwise

420SEL

Went to a local shop, asked for a loud but not tinny sound, and they told me to get the flowmaster. Apparently its going to like a muscle car or a big truck...don't know how much truth is in that but it seemed like a trustworthy shop (they just did a viper/bentley....impeccable). Here's a rundown of the price:

Flowmaster (2.25in/2.25out) = 172.00
Tail pipe w/ tip (single tip): 50.00
Y pipe: 78.50

For a total of about 310.00 including install
He gave me the option of a dual-tip for an extra 70.00, but I don't think it's really worth it. Apparently it will branch into a dual but then merge into a single tip....I'll probably get an oval one like on the AMG's.

Now my question....will I be satisfied with this setup? I'm a teen so I do like loud cars, but any comments on the quality of flowmasters?

I'll try to record some sounds after its done...installation will happen in 2-3 weeks as I have a flood of tests right now.

I had 2 Flow Master on my 84' RX7 13B street ported. It sounded great. Pretty much all my friends had Flow Masters on their cars. But that was like 14 years ago. It was loud and very throaty. Personally I never heard a flow master on a benz. Good chance it will sound very throaty. Not sure how loud it is going to be, but should be louder than most after market exuast.

If you are on a budget, then go for the setup you proposed.

Personally, I don't like cars with loud exaust any more (I'm getting old), especially on an automatic car!!!

my dad is going with a Custom Flowmaster setup on his 91 560SEC (his toy car, its gonna be nasty when hes done.....:p ). He considered many options (price really isnt much of an issue for him), but after we heard a flowmaster on a Mercedes, we both decided that was the thing to do. Yes its throaty, but its definitely not the same flowmaster you hear on trucks and mustangs. Much better quality sound (as it is acually a full muffler, not just pipe like some flowmasters). I think if you buy a flowmaster muffler, you will be happy with it. My dad is definitely welding new tips on as well as probably getting two mufflers and having dual exhaust, will take a lot of work. At some point he should be dropping the V12 from a W140 car in there, i dont know how good that will sound with the flowmasters..... . We may have to change the exhaust setup at that point. But in my opinion, while the word Flowmaster is like profanity in the presence of a Mercedes, you will like the sound...
