Is there any techinical difference between the 5.5na engine versus the 5.5sc?

Hi guys,

I've just started to think about adding a supercharger like a Kleeman in the future. Nonetheless, engine life and other related parts are always going to be a concerned whenever some much additional hp is added to the car.

So, I was wondering, apart from the supercharger, is there any difference between the 5.5n/a(for the SLK55 and CLK55) versus the 5.5sc(for the SL55, CLS55 and etc). Are the they using the same cyclinders, cams, block, crankshaft and etc.

Also, are there additional reinforcement for the gearbox for sc models.

Thanks.

Regards,

P.

*Does anyone know anything about the Carlsson SC? I understand they are using a Wankel type, compared the Kleeman's Eaton version.

BMW E30. I've turned to the dark side.
the pistons are different. the s/c motor has lower compression. i've had each in my hand at one time or another and can verify that is correct. as far as other differences, nothing obviously different in the heads or cranks/ rods. thats not to say there aren't changes but nothing visible. unsure on the cams as well.
transmissions are essentially the same for most if not all amg cars, software is different.

2001 E55K
55K uses 8 rib crank pulley and has accessories and s/c on separate belt paths. 55N/A uses 6 rib pulley and all accessories are on the same belt.

55K has an s/c clutch, Kleemann or others are always on.

AMG makes some significant changes in the engine internals in the SC version. You would probably better off buying an AMG car.

He is talking about BOTH the N/A 5.5L AMG motor AND the S/C 5.5L AMG motor. And yes they both engnes have significant differences as do the trannies as well.
