RennTech Performance Rear Sub frame modification??

Hey all!

Was just curious as to what exactly this performance rear sub frame does? I'm not very familiar with this. Does Evosport offer something like this??

Thanks!

REnntech's subframe stuff is just Aluminum Rods with Heim Joint bearing on the ends to replace the rubber bushing links used by Mercedes.

The solid link will get rid of wheel wandering during hard cornering.

Check out: Benzboy.com he sells the same thing for 1/4 the cost.

Thanks speedy! You think this is something worth getting?? Or only for die hard fans of cornering their cars? Also how is the quality of benzboy compared to the Renntechs?

Unless you are a regular at the Track, I would say don't waste your money.

I would have to disagree. The kit will allow your set camber and toe more acruately.

Because I can not afford to buy the stuff I plan on making the links myself. I think they will sharpen up the handling of your car and the result will be more Fun to drive.

toe is already adjustable, and a K-mac camber kit is available for ~$400, If these get the car withing spec, how is spending $2K+ more accurate?

KWIK,

The toe and camber settings will be more accurate because during a dynamic load the wheel will remain in the correct location and not move around on the bushings.

Look at Benzboy site: http://benzboy.com/Parts.asp?category_id=27&

He sells a better camber kit for $239 and the entire kit for $649.

These are quality parts and 3 times less than the Renntech stuff. It seems like pretty simple math to me. For an extra $200 to $249 you get the equivalent of the $2000 plus Renntech stuff.

OK, I understand that, but even at the $649 benzboy price, I still don't see the need for a car that isn't a regular at the track. I'm willing to bet that most members on this board(even the ones that do a few track events a year) wouldn't even notice the difference.

If your car is lowered a lot, it helps to have the adjustable camber in the rear to decrease uneven tire wear . . .

M104-AMG If your car is lowered do you need anything in the front for alignment? I always here about the rear how about the front?

Nothing special. Just make sure the dealer does a 4-wheel alignment to 1993 300E SportLine specs.

My dealer tech spends 2+ hours doing a 4-wheel alignment for $90.

I've tried others, who supposedly are the best, but none can touch my dealer's tech.

............I have been meaning to post this but I just finally got around to it. The only Camber adjustment kit available on the market is the K-mac kit and only available from Australia. IT is the exact same kit as the Renntech. Rentech orders it from K-Mac and then ships it to you at a considerable cost. I don't work for K-mac. The camber kit is a piece of junk requiring no less than 6 hours of labor and custom adjustments to fit properly. It is a generic kit made for W-124 which is beind adapted to fit other MB's. It can work, but it is very difficult to fit properly. How do I know? Well I happen to have seen a K-mac kit installed in a E320 and saw how difficult it was. I decided to get one from Renntech instead. The shop had already done that. They had ordered one from Rentech when they were having too many problems with the K-Mac kit. Well, they removed the Renntech wrapping.............Yep, it said K-mac. It was the exact same kit.

Funny, I had a customer arguing with me the other day about the K-mac camber kit for the w210. He was convinced that they made a great one for his car, and that I was a fool for not selling it.

--If we don't sell it, maybe it sucks!

I haven't seen Renntech's kit. Is the adjustable camber the same as the performance subframe modication? I didn't think it was. I was expecting replacement bushings and possibly bars to stiffen the chassis. That is something we will be making soon. The bars, placed properly on the chassis, can make a huge difference in the chassis stiffness. Many Mercedes models have horrible chassis flex, and this would probably make a great difference on them.

I am not sure how difficult it is to install the K-Mac rear kit, but My car would not be normal without it. When I lowered my CLK55 with H&R, the rear and front had sooooo much negative camber. You can see it squat and the top of the wheels from the rear was pointed inwards and the front too. I had to get the K-Mac kit for the rear and had it installed. For the front, my shop just used the bolt from MB. Now the camber is almost, almost perfect again.

I still don't get why MB owners are so afraid of camber??? BMW customers love it! It helps handling, and believe it or not, in many cases helps tire life (due to MB's normally wearing on the outsides). Too much camber is a problem, but 2% is a good compromise.

The adj. link suspension kit from RennTech is made from good quality materials. I do not like the fact that the subframe must be removed from the car for installation. Additionally, this kit requires a permanent alteration to the subframe ( no going back without a major expense). There is no way a properly engineered system can be done for less than $1500-1800. The appropriate rod ends are $80 each - and you need 16 of them. You can fabricate a kit that is a simple bolt-in and does not require removal or modification of the subframe. It ends up costing a little more than the RennTech version, but is superior in strength and durability.

This type of modification is really necessary only if you track your car and demand the performance benfit. It will never be noticed on the street.

The K-mac style camber adjuster is a good product that can easily allow camber adjustments for street or track and especially for lowered street vehicles.

Extreme lowering may require a toe link with a greater range of adjustment.

If you do any of these, find an expert alignment technician.

After I installed the H&R springs in my car, the camber went negative all the way, and I love it. My car handles like a dream.
I remember when I was a teen, use to cut the springs of my toyota's corona & celica's to lowered them and we loved the negative camber, it makes the car look more aggresive!
Here you can see it.

.............my comments were regarding the front camber kit. It really was difficult. So, the rear kit has to be easier.

The rear K-mac camber kit is relatively easy to install. They provide a tool, but an arbor press makes the job much easier.

The rear K-mac kit is killer. It fits and is not that hard to install with a press. We have one that I am going to install on our CLK.

The Front kit is NOT sold by RENNtech. They have decided it is junk. I am the one that installed the kit ordered diretcly from K-mac and it just doesn't fit. We had to have custom spacers and bolts machined to take up the nearly 40mm+ gap after installed the front bushings.

After I made the bushings and reassembled the front, the alignment is PERFECT and the car handles much better.

Total cost to customer.....$1,500. And that was a give away. To do it over would be more, but the results are outstanding.
