Powerchip experience

Anyone out there try out the Powerchip?

I went online to their website (www.powerchipgroup.com) and looked up my car and it says that it will give me roughly a 10% increase in power and torque for about $990. Anyone tried it, is it worth it?

Renntech didn't have anything for me and I'm trying to look around for some Kleeman stuff. Brabus is too much...might as well by a more powerful car then spend thousands for marginal gains.

Have had Powerchip "box tune" on my car (CL55) for about 30K plus miles and have been extremely happy with it and them. Much better if you have mods and they tune to what you have, but even on stock motor, it feels more responsive and powerful. I have had a very good experience/relationship with them.

Thanks for your insight. I was wondering what mods have you guys done besides the Powerchip? I have a non-turbo v12 so I'm not sure that there are that many options out there to squeeze more hp out of it. I think both of you guys own kompressors, which definitely have more room for mods. Look forward to input.

Headers.... not sure what they make for your car, would have to o some research.... and I think you may already have the 80mm throttle body, so not a whole bunch there..... or slap those turbos on (of course not that easy or cheap) for some really good gains, or get yourself a kompressor or TT V12!

Powerchip Update

Just spoke to Travis Caatch over there at Powerchip Group. I think they're located in SoCal (Costa Mesa). Anyway, I couldn't be more pleased. He was very courteous, extremely knowledgeable about high-performance cars, and was a stand-up guy all around. He quoted me $900 with a mbworld discount for the re-programming. Since there are no Powerchip installers where I live, I'm going to mail them my ecu and they'll take care of the rest. The re-programming and re-mapping will bring up both hp and torque almost 10%. Can't complain about that! Also, he told me that a bunch of guys go there quite often, and I think Thericker was there last (shout out to Thericker for enlightening me about Powerchip).

Look forward to it eagerly....

Thanks everyone for sharing your input. I appreciate your time.

In the future, I definitely have my eyes on the CL65. It's just ridiculous and incredible the amount of power the 65s are putting out. I mean, just stock, it's over 600 hp and 738 lb/ft torque! With just a simple re-programming of the ecu, you're talking about almost 700 hp and over 800 lb/ft torque! I can't think of any other car besides super exotics that have that many horses in the stable.

However, I'm a bit reluctant as well, because, unfortunately, some of these 65s get abused. People don't maintain them like they should but beat on them instead. Nothing wrong with driving with a lead foot but do maintain it relative to the level of rough driving it undertakes (e.g. religious Service As and Bs, brakes, and overall meticulous maintenance). Sometimes, especially for the CL-class, some problems are more mechanical and out of the hands of the owner but can be blamed on Daimler.

I have a stock 2003 CL55. I am interested in the Powerchip. My car only has about 16K on it and I have a extended warranty. The car has not give any problems but would like to see more power. I see that some of you have this Powerchip and have even changed the pulley sizes. Powerchip says it will not void any warranties and won't be detected. Does this all change when you start changing pulleys ?

Maybe, but I'm not sure. I can't speak for anyone else's behalf, but I would think changing up belts and pulleys would void it (I don't know why though). I'd be interested to know, so if you ask your dealer, please post.

Powerchip

I just did my 2002 e320 wagon with powerchip and I love the feeling. If you are in the San Francisco area Benny at Nissi Motors took care of me.

Give him and call and see what kind of deal he can work out for you 415-597-9911.

not sure that you see this site yet but give them a call they may have something for your car. They did my ECU (CLK320 trade in) back then and very happy with their work. I'm planning to send my ECU (CLK500) to them soon (waiting on my exhaust).
