Question Can a E320 diff work on an E55?

I noticed the stock R&P gear ratio of a 320 is 3.07:1. Could this be an inexpensive way of changing ratios for my E55?

The MKB upgrade actually uses the 3.07 (or 3.27 from a different car). The problem with changing just the differential would be that your EGS controller (tranny computer) will not be able to deal with the new ratio, and constantly throw the car into ESP - limp mode.

So the $5k high cost comes from re programming the computer?

It's the total package. The differential alone is a fairly decent amount of the package. But reprogramming the EGS controller (not ECU) takes a lot of research and work to make it perform seamlessly with the rest of the car.
