does putting on a cold air intake really make a difference in performance? even in the amg models?

I don't know of any aftermarket intakes besides the Renntech air box, but the stock system is pretty much ram air intake anyway, as it pulls air from the front of the car at the grille as is. I'd say if you gain at all, it would be minimal. Thats what I think at least...

that is very true... just 1 thing I'm not too crazy about is that the MB V8 intakes reside right over the side of the engine rather than going around it a little... that has GOT to be reducing the cold air intake... robbing the engine of cool air, thus robbing us of power...

some of the folks in the W208 forum have custom fabricated cold air intakes by using aluminum pipes from other cars (or they made some themselves) and sticking in a huge K&N cone filter....

they say the sound is definitely more aggressive and feel some added torque... but no one has ever actually Dynoed the results to see if they are real results...

EvoSport invested a lot of R&D dollars into finding a beneficial alternative to having the airbox sit on top of the engine where the heat creates an issue of cold air making it to the engine. bottom line, EvoSport doesnt sell a cold air intake, i assume mostly because there wasnt an alternative that created any additional power. itll probably just make some more noise.

The goal for ANY air induction system is unrestricted flow of the coolest air possible. In some extremely rare instances you could POSSIBLY (very unlikely) create a small degree of positive pressure (ram air) if you have enough air feed from a high pressure area of the car. Realistically, if you can just get all the atmospheric pressure to the throttle inlet you have done a great job.

You may want to start simple by modifying the stock components. Use high flow filters, insulate the stock box against under hood heat and increase the tube size from the grill to the box. Those 3 mods will give you the most bang for the buck.

I am developing a kit (at least for S320 / 300SE ) . im sick and tired of this rediculously $$ bullcrap. my kit should cost roughly $50-100 for a very well engineered kit and the same design could be modified for other model benz's as well. i'll keep yall updated
