ML intake kills car?!?
I've had aftermarket air intake sytems... chrome piping with cone filter (k&n style)on alot of the cars i have owned...including my ml. My friend did pretty much the same set up on his ml320... chrome piping with a 90 degree angle... hes had it for about 6months...it tripped his check engine light but still ran strong. but the other day he called me to pick him up cause his truck died on the road. he said it progressively began to lose power to the point where it is extremely underpowered. after cooling down it runs okay until it gets hot again. he pulled the codes one of them was that it was pulling to much air at the sensor. he swears its the intake, but i really dont think so...ive had it on my ml for well over a year. he called k&n and the said as long as he didnt touch the senosr it is fine. he called a bunch of high end places and they all said the same thing that an intake sytem wouldnt mess up the car. any ideas?

...............i think is mass airflow sensor is messed up due to oil deposits from the K@N filters. It costs a litlle less than $500 to replace including labor. Consider not using K@N filters.

I have the k&n with no problems.
........you do not YET, have a problem. This is not new discovery. Oily air filters such as K@N DO kill your MAF sensor.

people overoils those k&n-style filters. thats why maf goes bad. I have over 200thousand miles experience WITHOUT problems. DO NOT OVEROIL THE FILTER WHEN CLEANING!!

Yep, keep the oil to a min. I use a piece of old panty hose as a prefilter. Keeps the sand etc. from laying in the pleats. I ruined a 3 day old MAF with too much filter oil never have to do that again. $$ makes me remember, funny how that works. I like the filtration of the stock filter setup, but I have no choice on the C43, at least not w/o spending more money than it's worth. Don't suck water threw them, MAF's don't like that either. Damm little part makes such a difference in the way mine run. I'm going to data log mine every now and then to see how time takes it's toll. Lbs/Min at similar operation conditions and fuel trims can say a lot.
