2005 SLK55 AMG
New Quaife LSD
I was fortunate to get on a recent group by for a Quaife LSD for my SLK55 AMG.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the best of luck getting someone to install it. I called 4 shops in the Minneapolis area.
1. Mercedes dealer, had never heard of a Quaife LSD. Doesn't think it would fit on the SLK55.
2. High end shop, says they'll do it but the quote is REALLY high.
3. Hot rod performance shop. Says will do it for $1000, but referred to it as "one of those Mercedes things". Might be the best option.
4. Mercedes "AMG Performance Center". Says they'd put in in for $700. Sweet! I took it down there and they said they thought it was the whole rear end. They won't swap out the innards. Oops.
Is anyone aware of a performance shop in the Minneapolis area that would be able to take on this project for a reasonable price? It seems like others are getting this done for $700-$1000. I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can provide.
