V12TT from S600 into G55 AMG

Hello,
I'm from the UK and have finally aquired a 2002 S600TT donor with the aim of transplanting the engine into a 2005 G55 AMG.]
I contacted speedriven last year who informed me that the ECU's were the same, as were the gearboxes so the job is as simple (or difficult) as physically mounting the V12 intot the G, wiring the V2 correctly into the ECU and then getting the ECU to recognise the V2 correctly and not think that the V8 is still present.

I have a good garage in the UK ready to undertake the job with star diagnostics in dev mode but unfortunately speedriven seem to have shut up shop.

Is there anybody out there with the knowledge required to sort the ECU side of things out, of course I am happy to pay for the work.

The gearboxes aren't the same. 722.6 main version but they are different sub versions, the v12 boxes are slightly longer for one.

Speedriven are no longer, and I think your ecu troubles will be the hardest bit of the lot. The easiest way would be to use a V12 ecu, you will struggle if not find it completely impossible to get the original engine ecu to run the V12.

The other difficult bit will be the gearbox, as the G class obviously has 4WD, and I think the box is specific to a G 463, it has its own part number at least.

The v12 was introduced in the 463 in 2011, which has an ecu setup based on the 212 I think.

Your G55 has 203/209 based electronics, which was never available with a V12 so can't just swap in another ecu from one of those that do.

Wish you the best of luck!

The gearbox internals at least are the same, there are some physical differences with respect to the output end of the gearbox due to the differentials on the G. I will keep the box from the G55 and join the V12 to it.

The ECU from the S600 and G55 are confirmed also to be the same, so the problem mainly relates to how to get the settings for the engine from the S600 ECU into the G55 ECU.

Is anyone able to contact Marcin from Speedriven?

They arent. The V12 box (722.649 in your case) has more clutch plates, which is why its longer.

You will wear the box out quickly with the v12 torque, but it will work, for how long though?

Not sure how you have confirmed the ecu's are the same?

G55 is ME 2.8
S600 (w220) is ME 2.7.1

G55 is going to have 8 output stages for ignition coils and 8 for fuel injectors. How are you going to connect 12 ignition coils and 12 injectors to those 8 connections?

Very muc appreciate the correction. Measure twice and cut once

My mistake on the ECU, just re-read what Marcin wrote last year and you are correct - he said he could make it work from the 2.7.1 but not 2.7.2. Not clear if he was planning to use the S600 ECU in the G or modifying the G55 ECU from his email.

Ref gearbox he told me the early S600's had the same internals as the G55, it was only later that the S600 moved to the same box as the S65, I understand the boxes are pretty tough in any case, and I'm not planning anything more than a mild remap so I;ll run the risk on that and rebuild the box if it lets go.

Real shame speedriven are no more, they seem to be the only ones with any experience of getting the ECU work done on these . I've got one more lead on this but it's just a chap on an internet forum who claims to have put a V12TT into a SL500 and also another into a E320. I'd muh rather work with someone with a known reputation on these things though than a random chap over the internet.

Indeed!

When he said early 600's, he meant the non turbo M137's im sure. These have the same boxes as the 55/500 etc.

If your G55 is supercharged it has the 580nm rated box, which means it will take around 580nm continuously. The TT M275 will make 800-1000nm depending on state of tune. At those number you will kill the box pretty quickly. It could probably take 800-850ish without too much issues. The first sign will be long 2-3 and 3-4 gear changes.
