Suggestions or Comments on this project.

I am looking for a new project for this winter. It has come down to a 69 RS/SS Camaro with a twin turbo and a 6 speed or a 1998/99 CLK320 with a ford 4.6 twin turbo setup with a 6 speed.

I am trying to find out if the braking system and air conditioning/heating system needs the stock ECU to work.

My idea is to use a 4.6 or 5.4 Cobra/Lightning short block with a custom intake/headers/downpipes/ oil pan with a twin turbo setup. The fuel system should work with the stock returnless, but I can convert it.

The ignition should be right off the stock ECU harness.

I will just have engine and tranny plates made.

The clutch will come from a CLK230.

Any suggestions or feedback is welcome.

Also, how much can I get for a CLK320 drivetrain with about 100,000 miles on it?

I am going to use the clutch pedal assembly from a CLK230.

I am getting a D&D 6 speed, most likely from a Viper.

I am talking about 700 to 800 hp on the street so I would have to think that would not be sufficient.

well first off, a single unit turbo would be better. 2nd why try to put this into an mb, just build a ford. you will spend more time and money trying to botch these parts together than if you just bough the proper tranny, engine etc.

Just addressing the turbo comment, what is your reasoning that a single turbo would be better?

The main reason for twin turbos is to reduce the turbo lag..

You can use smaller turbos (they spin up faster) and shorter exhaust plumbing (if you use one turbo, on one side of the engine, then the exhaust plumbing from the other side is much longer) also decreasing turbo lag.

Regards,

Greg

( I will make no comment about the choice of engine!)

Right. Twin turbo's spin up faster and generate less heat. This is especially for a street car. Something like twin t70's q trim.

I like the look of the MB CLK 208. I know of no successful MB projects pumping out 800hp on 93 octane. The stock suspension in a 208 is decent enough as well.

Mustangs are ugly and cheap.

The only Ford I would consider is the Lincoln LS. That may be an option.

Did SLEESTACK ever finish his car, BTW?

My entire drivetrain will cost less than his short block or close to it.

What engine would you guys go with?

The 4.6/5.4 is a great engine.

you can now have a large turbo with almost no lag time by using hybrid turbos. if you are worried about lag time then put a charger on it, and be done.
