M113 5.4 AMG tuning flexibility
M113 5.4 AMG tuning flexibility
Just wanted to start a thread to discuss the M113.5.4 engine (5.4 N/A AMG) and it's flexibility in subtle or heavy modification.
Quick Wikipedia search says they came in the following:
I've researched the following is what makes it different to the standard Mercedes 5.0 M113:
Better intake, headers, decats will all reduce restriction but is it worth the gains?
How do these units respond to remaps?
Do the partially forged internals lend itself well to forced induction or is the compression ratio too high to consider that?
If you enjoy naturally aspirated power delivery and sound, what else can be done to improve performance?
I usually tinker with cars from 80's - 90's, so are there any electrical things, i.e sensory equipment that can be adjusted/changed/removed to improve performance?
Thanks

- 1997-2000 C 55 AMG
- 1998-2001 SL 55 AMG
- 1998-2002 E 55 AMG
- 2000-2002 S 55 AMG
- 2000-2003 ML 55 AMG

I've researched the following is what makes it different to the standard Mercedes 5.0 M113:
- Stroked to 5.44 litre
- Forged Crankshaft
- Strengthened connecting rods
- Connecting rod journals are 4mm further from Crank
- Piston stroke increased from 86mm to 92mm
- Reworked cylinder heads
- Lighter weight camshafts with longer duration
- Stiffer Valve springs
- Larger better flowing intake manifold
- Improved exhaust system
- Compression ratio increase to 11:1

Absolutely worth it, I'm doing all of that and some more. I should be starting a thread on it soon.
I just started my build log if youd like to check it out.
