I'm making my own CAI
It looks like I can make a fairly nice cold air intake by doing the following:
1) Custom 3" pipe with two small bends
2) Pipe is 17-19"
3) K&N type filter on bottom side
For people who want hydro lock protection, an inline AEM bypass filter
will work.
So, the K&N will sit in the compartment below the stock airbox (removed)
with the piping installed from under the car. Fresh cool air comes in from the
front (lower grill). I might add a custom mount some place to keep it secure
but that shouldn't be too difficult to weld. Once I get the piping made and all is installed, I'll post some pictures of the whole thing. Ultimately, it should
look like my AEM installed on my VW GTI Turbo. It too sits in an area where
it pulls cool air in from the lower front of the car. Wish me luck.

Hope you have better luck than I did...I experimented with the AEM type CAI & the BMC carbon tube-box in the past, either I lost ponies on the dyno or issues pertaining to MAF malfunction.
Keep us posted with your results...good luck!
