Does anybody have experience with simply removing the resonators (replace with straight pipe) in order to inexpensively increase exhaust sound volume and still retain the original AMG sound? Would this throw any codes and/or require retune?

This was the first mod I made on my C63 and it made a huge difference in sound and just a great overall improvement. N codes nothing to worry about.

what did you do after that? is yours 2021? just double checking. knocked out the honeycombs on my 2nd cats so far no significant change worth noting.
