Performance Chips

Wish I had found this site sooner! I just ordered a performance chip for my 98 C 280 w/sport package. The cars is stock, and I run 93 octane, 91 on rare occasions. I have to send in the ECU, they install and return to me. I had a hard time finding a shop that carried MB chips. I finally bought from performance products. Checked with a local guy who recommended I get it Dyno Tested prior to install to establish a benchmark, then again after install to measure improvement. Does this sound right? And has anyone heard of performance products, their chips, and have any thing to say about them?

What kind of performance gains are they talking? I'd think it should be in the
area of 213-215hp which is like most others out there. I too sent my ECU in
and had it back in two days (from PowerChipGroup).

hey, if you're getting your car chipped, you should do the dyno before and after. no one has said yes or no to my question: do the gains actually show up on a dyno?

some said they installed a powerchip and when asked about the lack of dyno results, powerchip said something to the effect of "we do what will give you the best results - if you want something that will show up on the dyno, we can run a different setup and you will see gains"

...but no one has taken them up on the offer of dyno-proven gains

Check Vadim@Evosport post: C55 tuning w/Powerchip DYNOS. I believe he posted his C32 AMG dynos with the Powerchip as well, search the forum. I've had my E430 PC unit for over 1.5 years now, initially with the PC 93 octane (ran too lean) and currently using PC 91.

....I've experiment with different software tuning; RBTech, Upsolute and currently Powerchip and the PC upgrade has provided reasonable results. If I recall correctly I gain approx. 11rwhp w/ the PC 91, the numbers aren't stellar but part throttle response is improved. I hardly ever believe any company's HP&TQ claims, as they are peak #s @ WOT and I particluarly don't have my foot planted at the "loud" pedal at ever stoplight.

I very much agree with your statement above in reference to getting dyno testing not only for HP&TQ gains but also to get proper a/f readings. Vadim@Evosport seems to be the only one who actively has posted dyno testing on software upgrades.

chip gains

Performance products told me their chip would take it from 195HP to 212 HP. Doesbt sound like much, but I was told an 8-10 % increase is very noticeable. The only other thing I have done is K & N filter, and I just put a lower wider set of performance tires. Thinking about replacing the shocks with too. Any ideas? I heard bilstein makes a good stiff shock.

Have a K&N, ROMULUS exhaust (Remus especific for SLK) and a UPSOLUTE chip mod....

The feeling of the K&N is that the car became more fast on the accelerations!

The ROMULUS put the car more OPENED....and it became more energic!!!

With the UPSOLUTE chip...(they claimed 30HP)...LOVED IT!!!
