Tuned mpg??
All of these tune companies advertise their hp and tq numbers, which are all pretty impressive as far as gains over stock. But I’m curious what type of fuel economy everyone is getting in their 550’s and which tunes you’re running.
My brother has a kleeman tune, and from what I understand the power gains are not quite as impressive as weistec or renntech, but he averages 31mpg on the highway and it’s incredibly fast. While a friend of ours has the renntech, and makes huge power but he said his fuel economy isn’t much better than stock.
I know this is all relative, and has a lot to do with the way the car is being driven, but I thought it would be a good idea to check in here and get some real info from some of you prior to making a purchase. I drive a ton for work, and decent fuel economy wouldn’t necessarily be a bad perk on top of all that extra power.
Wow! What did he (or you) expect? I have a SL400 with a Stage 2 tune from vividracing and on the highway at 70mph with the cruise control in Sport mode, I have gotten 32mpg or better. Stage 2 produces 422hp. Around town driving, is much different, probably a little better than half that. As you said, it all depends on how you drive. Anytime you don't suffer mileage with a tune is good.

To answer your question, I was expecting someone with some experience with tuned 550’s to give me some real world numbers relative to the tunes they have installed. And I can’t speak for my friend. I’d imagine he expected similar numbers that my brother found in his car.
Im aware that mileage can vary greatly, and potentially be worse than stock. Being that I drive about 50k a year, it’s something that I’m going to consider while shopping.
while I appreciate your response, you didn’t really give me any info that I can use. As I don’t have a 400. And you didn’t even mention which tune you have.
have a great day.
