I asked brabus the same question last year in september, the answer was: "The costs for the 5.8 liter are $22,000US; 6.1 liter upgrade costs $30,000US"

Here's the quotation of MKB 6.0/435 ps conversion program.
~ euro 39,000 w/o installation.
There're a lot of goodies covered other than the engine
upstroke.

Meanwhile I was told Kleemann will have 6.0 conversion
along with their S/C kits, that's the ultimate power, IMO

Thumbs down I agree that these prices are way too much...

Granted, I understand that you're really paying for the R&D, and other costly overhead, but I stil think that even taking all of that into consideration, $30,000 for what I believe is nothing more than new engine internals (Crank, rods, pistons, and associated hardware) is just too damned expensive. Am I missing something? Are cams included, or different exhaust manifolds or an intake?

Without question, Kleeman's supercharger package is a FAR better value. Besides, I'm not a big fan of stroked motors because of the increased stress from higher piston speeds. I know that the aftermarket pistons and rods would most likely be lighter, but from what I've read, higher piston speeds would still puts more strain on the internals.

What I'm looking forward to learning more about is HPS's new intercooled supercharger system, which is coming in around 1/2 to 2/3rd's the cost of the Kleeman kit. If the HPS kit is reliable, with an intake charge temperature comparable to the Kleeman kit, I'm a buyer. I imagine that the Kleeman kit probably produces more power, but all I'm really looking for is about another 100-150 hp. Anything more is pretty tough to use around here, as the opportunity to exercise the velocitator pedal are few and far between. All I really want is more roll-on power, and to be able to accelerate at the rate that I want without having to rev out the motor. I want torque. I'm not a big fan if standing start drags, and besides, once you have over 450 hp, I think traction becomes the big limitation...

Another very signifigant advantage with HPS is their warranty which is included, as well as additional coverage being available for a very reasonable cost. The HPS kit looks like it's extremely well manufactured, with very high quality materials being used. It looks like a very nice piece of engineering.

I like how HPS seems to agree that all of the MB tuners are charging too much, and that they are looking to make more power affordable for more people, especially for guys with misplaced priorities like me, where even buying the stocker was more than I should have spent. I hope that HPS is very succesful, as they'll only force the competetion to reconsider their marketing strategies!

The only issue at this point, is whether or not I'm keeping my CLK, or if I'm going to trade into an E60 M5 when it comes out...

Anyway, please excuse my rant, but I've been quietly psyching myself up for this, and once I started to spill the beans, I couldn't stop...

Best regards,
Matt
