I’m gearing up to swap the 3.5 liter M272 engine in my 2005 SLK350 to a later engine from a 2010 car, also an SLK, also an M272, but without the troublesome balancer shaft and cam sprocket issues. The ‘05 car has a manual transmission, the 2010 car was an automatic. I have the ECUs for both.

Can anyone fill me in on which ECU I should use, and if it needs recoding for my VIN or other features, including the manual transmission? And if it DOES need reflash or reprogramming, who are the trusted vendors for the service?

You sure this is gonna work? Any updates? I am not seeing how this would not cause a million problems with your whole setup. Will it talk to your BCM?
