Interest on a J2534 flasher for ME9.7

Hi everyone,I’ve been spending a lot of time lately (the last year) digging into the ME9.7 ECUs (M272/M273/M156 engines), and for that been using different flashers for one reason or the other, so few months ago got into creating something more dedicated for the unit (like it has been done for the BMW ECMs for example)

I’m currently developing a flasher tool that works over standard J2534 cables (openport, scanmatik, etc), allowing to do virtual read, full bench read, full stock write, custom calibration writes, and while not yet there because it is a bit simpler, data logging (and for some special versions probably a special way of data logging which is a bit more precise than just the common diagnostics datalogs) but for this one I have to sort some other issues first with custom code patches (which work right now but I'm polishing the method)

I’m at the point where I’m deciding how to package this for the community, and I’d love to get your honest feedback. I want to keep it accessible but also sustainable so I can keep updating it.

So had a few questions, just to understand if there is interest and what would be practical.
  1. Would a tool like this be useful to you for things like cloning, tuning, or backups?
  2. How would you prefer to access it? (Single VIN license, a "token" per flash, or just a flat one-time cost for the software with a hw id activation?)

Cool stuff man.

I could see myself using this to clone, tune, and backup.

I don't really like the idea of it being locked down to a single VIN. So either tokens or a flat fee are preferable to me. There is a concern about being able to get tokens if your product is no longer supported, so a flat fee may be a more attractive option. On the other hand, a flat fee may be too pricey for those who intend to use your tool just once or twice, so the token option would be preferable to them.

How is this different than just buying a China C6 and coding and flashing DoIP?

Not sure how you plan to do doip flashing on an ME9.7, coding and flashing though with the C6 is possible to Me9.7 as it is done over can, but I'm using passthru, and while mine supports back to original (and uses stock flash files to restore it) the main purpose is custom flashing of both code and calibration.
