Where's the TOW?
The speed had been very slow recently, but it is very snappy today.
From a back end database perspective, when you have a system that is optimized for maybe max of 200 posts or so, with an average much, much lower, thousands of posts can't be good.
I would think the only practical thing to do would be to split it up, and lock all of the archived threads.
Although, with the TOW gone, it does make the post counts of us "normals" seem all the better.

The TOW thread was about 250k posts, it was a literal ***** to move and manage. We're going to run experimentations for a week to see how we can fine tune the max keep alives and process spawning. It'll be a fun summer for session and Mr. Vanos.

For what it's worth, the database is corrupted beyond belief and it's surprising that we've gotten so far on what it is. If you've got any good ideas, please let the staff know -- I know there are a bunch of system guru's out there!

The thread is not gone, it is just in hiding. We will experiment this week to see if the regular traffic loads stay the same and if performance improves. If so, we'll see how to handle TOW.
We aren't just going to throw away your data.
That being said, 22,000 posts in one thread? GET A LIFE!
Meantime, I'm told the first step in any 12-step process is to capitulate and admit one has a problem. Those of you who have lost several hundred or thousands in your post counts need to wake up to your problem, as many already have noted here.
There will be a step two class forming next week. Stay tuned, LOL!
