Accelerator Sensor??????

Accelerator Sensor??????
My 1989 300E all of a sudden shuts down while I am driving. I lose power, it does not matter how far down the pedal is, but does not shut off til I stop or turn the key off. It will start again with no problem. Is there an accelerator sensor in the w124's? Or is it something else?
