sig character limit....please help

sig character limit....please help
"Your signature cannot be longer than 500 characters excluding BB code markup."
I count 341 characters, including spaces, in a sig I'm trying. Because it says "...excluding BB code markup" I assumed I need not count things like [FONT="Comic Sans MS"][SIZE="2"] or [IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v115 etc. Am I wrong?
