Weigth and torque figure

Just had a read regarding the GST R Class, here are some things I found that were interesting and would value your comments. At the moment, looking at it as a family mover where 95% city driving at around 60-80km/hr, the 320CDI will be of better value. But would love to have a V8

1. Weight R320CDI Kerb Weight 2270kg, R500 Kerb Weight 2240kg. Wow either this new V8 is a real gem, weight wise ; or the Diesel is still in Dinasour land era (despite being new)

2. Torque R320CDI Rated torque Nm 510 at 1600-2800 rpm , R500 Rated torque Nm 460 at 2700-4750 rpm. In terms of city driving is torque more important than power for drivability

I wish I couild help but I have not really studied the engine specs that closely. Also I am metric deficient..:-)

The V8 is not the new V8 but the one currently in the E500 (3 valves per cylinder and single overhead cams) but they have upped the HP to 302. The V6 gas is a new engine and is 4 valves per cylinder (double overhead cam) and is 272HP. I guess the CDI (and it's components) must add to the weight. I don't think the new V8 with 4 valves and overhead cams will be available until 2006 sometime.

I would prefer the R320CDI but it is not being made available in the US initially...maybe sometime in 2006 or when we are required to have low sulphur fuel available. I will order the R350 as soon as it is available and has been priced.
