Wait for 07 R-Class?

Hi all, Newbie here. I am seriously considering to trade in my X5 for a R350. I am wondering should I wait for the 07? Anyone know when the 07 will be available? Also, any information or guess of the differences in price, options and colours between 06 and 07?

I test drove the car and definitely like it. Only unsure about the purchase now is about the colour since my wife really wants something more like "Granite Grey Metallic" or "Flint Grey". She picks "Irdium Silver" now but she is definitely hoping 07 will have more colors.

Thanks.

If you can wait a month or two then it might be worth getting the 2007. As for color choices, there is no guarantee that the 2007 models will have more color choices available.

I say if you can get a smoking deal on the 2006 model then that might be the way to go.

Because of the fact that MBZ (at least in the USA) has produced so many new models lately, and because they have gone off of their usual 'new model year begins after June' schedule -- I am not sure when an "MY2007" R-Class is actually going to come out....

Has anyone heard? Does anyone actually know definatively?

I would assume that additional options and colors would be available on an MY2007 R -- but do any of us expect this to happen in the next six months? I don't....

If I were thinking, wait for the next model year to come out before buying an R, I would be planning on having to wait until after the start of the new calendar year for that new MY to come out.

Don't you agree?

Dealer is willing to sell us invoice - $5000 (MB discount) - $2500 (MB preferred employer fleet discount). The MSRP of the car is around $53K..... so I am looking to pay around $43K out the door.

i would assume that we are back on a september intro schedule for 07's, save the GL, as far as trucks go.

Base vehicle with Entertainment, Sunroof and Tailgate packages. She does want the parktonic option but we cannot locate a vechicle that has the combination of color and options.

While that is a good price, I would suggest looking into a vehicle that has Premium Package, Lighting Package, and Comfort Package.

I understand the need of the Premium and Lighting package, but why Comfort Package? Memory seats?

Btw, I believe someone has suggested to replace the light bulb of the regular headlight to improve the lighting. Is that acceptable or I really need Lighting package? For some very strange reason, it is not easy to locate a car in inventory with Lighting package or Parktonic if I don't order it from MB.

auto-dimming mirrors, power folding mirrors, and cargo cover & net -- all things you are going to want (or need) at some point, IMO....

...and 'a steal' at ONLY $625.

From carsdirect, comfort package is a $1,256 option for R350 ...... I know this is all preference but the option sounds kind of pricey to me.....

regarding packages

We bought the R350 last month. We also found the lighting package and parktronic extremely hard to find. Our other cars had xeonons, but I don't find the standard lighting to be bad. It seems plenty bright.

We did get the comfort package, a must have if you both drive. It even remembers the electric headrest settings!

Folding mirrors a must

For a vehicle this wide, I have the folding mirrors a must-have, and thus recommend the comfort package. The dual sun visors are also useful. I personally think that the comfort package should be standard on a vehicle of this price.

Forgot about the memory settings feature -- that is good stuff too.

Does it include rain-sensing wipers as well, or is that part of the premium package?

What is the $2500 MB preferred discount?

Why not the GL or wait for the new X5 which is going to have a 3rd row? I'm not trying to bash the R (we considered it), but now that the GL is out it seems the better choice unless price is the main factor.

Yeah, the decision on buying the R is heavily influenced by the price. I agree with you totally on both GL and new X5 and if the price is the same on all three vechicles, I probably will pick the GL or the new X5. However, for about $18-20K less out the door, we just think R provides better value for the money and still fit my family needs.

Regarding the fleet discount, $2500 is for R only and I don't believe GL even has any.

Btw, the 17" wheels come with the car are kinda small. I really like these wheels. What do you guys think?

MB preferred employer fleet discount?

My wife and I just found out that we are going to have a twins. Therefore, we went shopping for a bigger car. She refused to drive a minivan, otherwise, Honda Odessey will probably be the best choice.

So we went to look at the R350 and GL450. The GL is just tooo long and will have trouble parallel parking. Also, it's not very easy to access the 3rd row. On the other hand, the R is just much better in both areas.

Now, I think we are pretty much sold on the R350 and we are looking at the best deal. Here are some questions for you:

1. What do you guys think? Is it a good vehicle for a family of 4 (dad, mom, and 2 infants), plus occasional visit of the grand parents?

2. Is the "MB preferred employer fleet discount" only applicable to people who buy several MBs in last year? I have bought 3 (SLK, CLK320, and CLK500) over the past 6 years but I haven't bought any last year.

3. We must have the pano roof and parktronics. MSRP with the options is about $52.5K. What would be the best deal? $43K - $45K?

4. Other advices are also appreciated.

Thanks!
Ben

The consent is you should pay no more than invoice price - $5,000 (marketing discount) if the dealers have the car on the lots. You can find the invoice price from cardirect.com or edmund.com.

Regarding the fleet discount, I believe your company needs to first apply for it and then all employees will then be benefited by it.

Good luck to your purchase.

I would get the Premium Package since it includes the Pano roof, gets you the Power Liftgate for slinging stroller(s) in and out, gets rid of the weak stock sound system for the HK system, and you get Navi. The is a pretty common package for dealer stock. You may also want the Comfort Package if mutiple drivers use the vehicle since you get the Memory Seats, mirrors, and Power Steering Column. Your list then is about $57K, off the lot s/b $50-52K.

Fleet purchase discount

I asked a local dealer and I will not qualify for the Fleet purchase discount because the company that I work for is not enrolled.

I know that the Premium package is nice to have but it will be a stretch.

So I will call around to see if any dealership has the options that I am interested. Hopefully, if they have one in stock, I can get a better deal.

BTW, here are my preferences for the R350:
Exterior color: Capri Blue, Pewter, or Barolo Red (plum)
Interior color: Ash (light gray) or Macadamia (sand)
Options: Panorama moonroof (MUST HAVE), Parktronic (parking sensor), and Power Lift gate (power trunk door)

Thanks guys!

It seems like you are not looking at the most popular colors, such as black and silver. If you can be flexible on your options, you should able to find very motivated dealers willing to get rid of the R350 stocks on the lots.

From the discussion forum of Edmunds, some people mentions get a good deal with Invoice - $7000/$8000. You may want to check that.

Regarding your options, the roof and liftgate are very popular options but have not seen Parktonic in any dealer's stock.

Good luck.

Should I do it?

I live in Portland Oregon and a dealer offer me this deal. It's a dealer trade with another dealership in Seattle.

Capri Blue/Ash R350 with:
326 Premium Package
220 Parktronic
873 Heated Front Seats
293 Rear Side Airbags

MSRP - $56,690
His price - $46050 (plue $400 dealer swap fee)

This is the price that the salesperson flatout offer to me. What do you think? Should I sweeze for more?

I have been looking for a R350 for over 3 weeks now all over the West coast and it's been extremely difficult to find the right one. Here are my criteria:
Pewter / Capri Blue / Silver exterior color
Ash / Acadamia interior color
Panorama roof (MUST)
Parktronic (prefer)

He told me that I have to make a decision by tomorrow because it's so closed to the end of July (end of the $5000 incentive).

Please advice. Thanks!
