2008 Model Pricing Is Out and the Price is UP
I have a 2008 R320CDI on order for August build. (I was one of those people who had a 2007 model on order for May build in U.S. who had the order cancelled since Mercedes cancelled R production for U.S. in May.)
For the same equipment, the price went up $1950 dollars, a 3.5% price increase.

I noticed that too.
I'm in the same boat as you. Rumor was that the price was actually supposed to go down, although it looks like only the base price went up. The options are actually cheaper, but not enough to offset the significant base price increase.

FL Diesel:
I have the updated order print out from the dealer. It is interesting what Mercedes-Benz North America has done. The Panaromic Roof use to be an option that was included in all the Premium Packages. It is now a stand alone option. However, when I got the print it is listed with no price. I called the dealer back and he went into the order system and it appears that you can now order a "regular" sunroof or a panaromic roof and they are no cost options. In other words, they are now included in the base price of the car but you can order either one or no roof. The premium packages are hard to compare to 2007 model pricing because of the equipment changes. I have the Premium Package II, which for 2008 no longer included the three zone climate control and infrared glass. So I had to order the three zone Climate Control Package seperately. (Our summers in the Memphis area are hot and humid. If I have someone in the third row seat, I was reluctant to order this vehicle without the rear air conditioning.) I figured there would be a small ($100 to $500) increase, but not this much. By moving to the 2008 model, this is going to cost me $4000.00! The price increase plus losing the Mercedes Benz Club of America $2000 rebate that was availabe on 2007 models.

Almost $2k on RClass for '08, that's substantial. Other models, ML and GL, only few hundreds increase. I guess the 18" wheels and exterior AMG appearance justify the increase. The panoramic roof is included in the PI. But if you order the small/regular roof, you will get a $1,000 credit. IMO, keep the panoramic roof.
Go for PII and the option 3 Zone Air and IR Glass, almost everything in the PII is worthed as each is "must-have's" rather than "nice-to-have's". Never mind about the $2,000 on '07 right now, as you probably wouldnt be able to find an '07 R320 with PII anywhere.
Go on and renegotiate a new deal on your '08 R320 and configure with everything you want and need. Offer your dealer 1-2% below invoice (ie. 8-9% off from MSRP) and see what he says. Be firm, be patient, be clear that you wouldnt buy the car from him unless you get a "GOOD" deal. If it doesnt work out, check the post from a member SRAJ on the GL posts. He's getting $500 over invoice for a very hot GL550 from a dealer in Winston Salem, NC. Most others are paying MSRP on GL550 from other dealers.
Remember, most people have been getting incredible deals on RClass in the last two model years. Typically, 8-10% up to 15%+ during year end incentives. New '08 models shouldnt be different. Your asking 8-9% on pre-ordered '08 is right on the money. Dont pay more. Spend a little efforts and it will pay off in your savings.
Good luck and have patience in negotiating. It's worthed and you'll enjoy the car when you get it.
