Air Filter Replacement

Anyone have any luck in getting to the air filters in the engine bay. I've got the whole airbox assembly loose but can't figure out how to get it out since there's not enough room above it to simply lift and remove. Any experiences from anyone?

I had a similar problem on my 03 SL. First, check to see that the hood is completely open. It opens quite a bit further from the usual height once you release a latch on one of the hinges. Once the hood is completely opened, you should be able to lift the air box straight up and remove it from the engine.

I read somewhere that you need to remove a crossbar to get the air cleaner out. I'm too hungover to go into the garage and open the hood on my R-Class to confirm though.

I've heard about the crossbar thing too...I can''t seem to figure out what it's referring to though...
