Radar Detector work in R's?
Hey guys, I stuck my escort solo2 radar detector on my windshield (2006 R500) as I was driving to San Diego, and it didn't pick anything up. I thought there was some type of malfunction, but tried it on my ML55, and works fine.
Found out later that the R500 has infared glass, a purplish glaze on the windsheild and side front windows. I think that is blocking signals out.
Anyone have the same problems? You can confirm that your windows have the coating by seeing the purplish color, or "IR" at the end of the part number on the windshield.
Thanks,
Dave

I mounted on left top of rear mirror and have no problem detecting the incoming signal.
See this link for the pic.

if only i knew which wire to tap...
my bel sti beeps as normal even when stuck at the bottom of windshield.
i agree though just above rear view mirror is a better option, however i don't know which wire to tap for power.
