6 Disc Changer

Does anyone know how i can get a 6 disc changer without paying the $$ that MB wants to add this afterwards? I have located a couple used 6 disc changers, but i am unsure if i need to buy some other hardware, etc. to make it fit in my car - as well i want to be sure it will work before i plunk down the $$ - even the used ones are not cheap.

My car is a 2007 with the P2 and HK sound, but no CD changer.

TIA
J

From what I can read via the STAR DVD for the R-Class, the disc changer retrofit is plug and play. You have to remove the radio and install a new wiring harnes (MB calls it a MOST fiber optic cable), you have to remove the old harness, install the new one and this new one connects to the harness on the CD changer. Do some work in the glove box to mount the changes, pinvolves removing the plastic tray (top left of glove box). punching out a plastic cover in order to install the button you push to drop down the disc changer, route the wiring harness and plug it in, put everything back and you will have to have the dealer configure the new MOST harness via STAR DIAGNOSIS software. The complete instructions for this are on the MB STAR DVD, I suggest getting the service dvd from MB (search the r-class forums for the info on this) and follow the instructions, they contain some pics and fairly good instructions. Good luck.

Another option is to just transfer your cds into mp3s and then you can put aprox 4 to 7 full cds on one cd in mp3 format and play it on the single cd payer already installed. a lot cheaper and a lot less work.

Plus:
That is what I did. Burn several CDs into single MP3 disc. I even have Ipod in glovebox but rarely use it.

Minus:
MP3 music sound quality is not as good as Cd music sound.

If it is recorded @ 320KBPS with a good encoder ,you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
