I agree that the NAV in some Japanese models is much better, but how does the Infinity compare in other categories such as handling, acceleration, styling etc. How about steering wheel feedback from the road? I don't have experience with Infiniti, but I have owned other Japanese cars. They all felt like extremely light vehicles, even when they are not. The handling is perfect for casual drivers (like my 70 year old mother) but not for spirited drivers. Definitely not a car enthusiast's ride.
I have a Infiniti M and my wife drives the MB R. They are just two totally different rides but I must say I have a lot of experience with MB, Lexus and Infiniti. It is true that MB ride and handling are great but my M is not far behind or pretty close to even. My brother drives a E350 Sport. I love his ride but we both agree that each car has it benefits and down sides. He loves certain things about my car and I feel the same about his. The newer Japan Luxury cars are really catching up with MB and BMW. We bought the R because there really was nothing else like it in the Market Place and we just love it!
After about 6 months of owning my R500 I have come to realize that Mercedes Benz created the R series using existing technologies that some are already dated now (like the NAV). There was nothing new they introduced in this model other than the body shape and perhaps the pano roof. They used the older 24 valve V8, although a few months after they started making the R500 they introduced the new 32 valve 385 bhp V8 they put in S550. They did similar with the other versions but some to a different degree (R350 and diesels). I am not saying that I am not happy, far from it. I really enjoy my car and feel it has plenty of power and amenities. I am just pointing out that I think it was a business decision on their part to use up what they had left over in the parts bin, and slowly upgrade things for the next R class version. Maybe if they get some healthy competition in this segment from other premium automakers they will think twice before making such a decision.
We received the disc to the navigation system for our 2006 R350 recently. It was a used vehicle and the dealer finally got around to giving it to us (I guess he took it from another vehicle on the lot). Any way we did figure out how to use most of the system (as we have a Garmin) but I do not know how to find "stores". It has "grocery stores" listed under Points of Interest and also "shopping centers" but if I want to find a Macys or other type of store can you tell me HOW lol. Thanks
I have the lastest R-class DVD, which I believe is 08 version. Can't quite remember now. I didn't bother with the original 06 DVD and bought a new one on Ebay because my house is new development, and there is no way it shows on 06 version.
Anyways, I found Nav on R350 is very easy to use. Better than E350 and 08 Honda Odessy.
For your problem of searching "Macy's", you just go into Point of Interest and there is button on the left. I believe it's "Search by Name".
Once you type in the name, it will list several options for you the select. For example, after you type in Macys, it will show options for you to select "gas station", "resturant", and "shopping" and etc. (I can't remember the detal). You just select "Shopping". And, that's it!
Maybe the 2006 version is not as good as the 2008. I'll have to look into it. There is the button to select types of places to go ie: gas, court, casino lol, grocery. There is also shopping but only shopping centers which isn't always the answer. If I try to type in Macys for instance a Macys ice cream store comes up in Mass. (I live in NY) If I'm out of state and want to find a store and don't know the name of shopping center I'll be out of luck. Thanks for the answer.
