Cabin Air Filter oily???

I was doing maintenance on my 2006 R500 and took the cabin air filter screen off to see what was in there...just too curious and noticed that it looked like it had oil/grease on the sides of it and a lot of dirt was sticking to it. Anyone know what this could be? Normal? See pics attached to this thread

Haven't done a R-Class cabin filter yet, but that looks normal to me. They get visibly dirty fast.

Seems pretty normal. I haven't changed the ones in the R yet, but the CL ones were filthy. The Charcoal filters was even worst. Imagine printer toner and you'll get the idea.
