Panoramic Roof

I am considering purchasing a used R-class with the panoramic roof option, but am concerned about the screen vs. traditional closure. I live in Arizona and am afraid it will get too hot. Any advice?

tint the roof

tint the roof with ceramic tint, it has the highest amount of heat rejection. makes a HUGE difference.

I am in South Florida and the screen cuts a lot of the heat. We tinted the windows but not the roof and the car is staying cool (As cool as can be expected in South Florida). I have no complaints about the screen compared to a regular slide cover. It cuts a lot of heat and sun when closed. I would not worry.

The Pano roof is a must on the R-Class IMO. Mine used to pop and creak, but after a few dealer adjustments it's been pretty good. As for the heat, it's gonna get hot in there regardless. Get the pano.

works fine for us

but i'm in Cali...Also, there's the infrared glass that some of these cars come with, and I'm told it blocks out a ton of heat...that's what we have.

Not sure if it really works, but it does keep my radar detector from working if I place it in the wrong place... :idunno

MB left a hole in the infrared glass specifically for the radar detector to work - near the infrared rain sensing wiper module at the top.

L.E.T. ECU

B-O-R, I noticed your updated signature showing your mods. I'd likr to know more about your ECU upgrade. What are the details of the performance changes? Who did the chip work?

I organized a custom dyno tune day in April (https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...6-dc-area.html). L.E.T. flew out and tuned about 7 or 8 cars on a load bearing dyno in Virginia. I had a boxed Evotech tune prior and L.E.T. was able to get 19hp/20tq above and beyond my Evotech tune. But, I had also added VRP shorty headers, so I'm assuming a good amount of that came from the headers.

I highly recommend L.E.T.

Chips & Headers

Ah, yes, custom headers do make a substantial difference. Thanks for the lead to LET.

Agreed on the pano being a must have. The shade is more then sufficient to cut heat and light if needed. Ours is black on black and we are in Florida so we have used the shade a time or 3.
