Cool Snow tires for a 2009 R320

Ok I know it is early but I had some free time tonight. So any Recommendation as to snow tires for my R320 stock wheels and rims. I am planning on getting new wheels and tires so size suggestions are also welcome.

You may know already that MB used to specify only Michelins and Continentals for the R, right down to the type (Latitude and 4x4 Contacts) - and the MO designation appearing on the tire (Mercedes Original). Lately however I've seen Goodyear and Bridgestones appearing with a copied tread design from the prior two makers - the latter on new 2009s.

I've driven mine in the winter with 20% tread remaining on the factory 17" Continental 4x4s. It was the best experience I've had EVER in winter driving - given the nice 4matic system and ABS. I now have factory Michelin Latitude 18s on mine. If I HAD to buy winters for the extra set of 17" aluminum rims I now have, I'd probably go with a mild tread design - no need for Mud & Snow chunky types. I have seen one R with Goodyear Assures. It just looks wrong to me, somehow.

Yearic, I have a set of Michelin Alpin Latitudes in 255/55-18. I don't have extra wheels and have them swapped with my summer tires, also Michelin Latitudes. I live in No. VA and saw no snow last winter. However, the temps got low enough that the summer tires would not have been appropriate for best safe driving. There's more to winter tires than driving in snow. The flexibility of the tread at low temps is important. The Alpins don't have a chunky tread and don't add noise or harshness to the ride.

I agree with the "extra set of wheels" approach, but be sure to budget an extra $400 for tire pressure monitoring sensors.

Ding - Ding - Ding

I have a pair of sensors (new) for sale. I bought them but don't need them.

Its posted in the parts for sale. $100. Fits 09 Rs, MLs, GLs.

And since the OP has an 09 diesel, isn't it a Bluetec with runflat tires?

It is--does that mean it doesn't have TPMS?

Q & R
The point is that Bluetec doesnt have a spare tire - and the runflat tires actually makes TPMS essential since you cannot visually tell if a tire is flat. So, yes Blutec has TPMS. I was just commenting on the fact that there are even less variety of snows to choose from for the Bluetec with 19s.
