New Guy with R320 Issue - Codes

Hi there.
I've done a search and can't find anything that would indicate this request is possible but I figured I would ask here and see.

I have a 2008 R320 CDI that just yesterday has had the power hydraulic lift gate stop "sucking" in or fully closing but it still locks.

The problem here is that the dash displays the icon that the rear door is open and it dings at you at nausium. The door opens and closes with the power system and I have done some homework looking for DTC / TSB stuff and found that it is most likely a 890 code and there are a number of TB and Service Campaigns out there as well.

Anyway, is there a way, like say turning on the key and pushing a series of buttons to get the DTC to display? No, I don't yet have a scanner for this car.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I would bring the R to the dealer and try not attempt to fix.

Here is the C/P from "2008R320" who had the tail gate problem after 3rd attempt to fix by the dealer.

Wrote a letter to MBUSA send it with FedEx next day air.
The next day by 10.00am the local repair shop (MB Dealer) called me to schedule a final repair attempt. He informed that they would have a technician from Germany.

He had the car for 2 days did adjustments basically in all connection points e.g. the actuator arm, lock unit, latch etc...

After that the tailgate has performed flawlessly, knock on wood...

I didn't say I was going to fix it myself. What I want to know is all the "possible" issues or codes or whatever so that when I go there no one is wasting anyone's time. I have already experienced this service centre and haven't been totally convinced they are any good but my discussion with the service manager was basically what I tell ever dealer - When I come through this door you know that I have a problem and want it repaired correctly the first time. You and I will also either get along or I'll be your worst nightmare.

I have no issue fixing anything on my own I just don't think I should with the warranty that I have.

I agree w/you.

What I am trying to say is leave the problem as is so you can show the dealer who must fix the problem or else.
I hope that the dealer will find the cause the fix your R just like 2008R320's case.

Peace.
