Heated seat retrofit

Has anyone retro-fitted heated seat elements to an R class? I would use aftermarket carbon fiber elements but the real question is is the wiring there? I had a dealer say no but I find it VERY hard to beleive that Mercedes would go to the expense of different wiring harnesses for cars with different option. I suspect that if I pull a seat I'll find the wires. Mainly I'd like to get a pair of OEM switches and hopefully use the pre-existing wiring to hook it all up.

There's not going to be any wiring there.

You can look this up yourself: http://epc.startekinfo.com

Look in 82 Electrical System / 465 Electric Seat Adjuster, where you'll see different harnesses for code 873 (heated seat option)

Then look in 82 Electrical System / 510 Seat Heating, where you'll see the controller box required.

thanks for the info. I can always just use the switches and wiring that comes with the aftermarket kits.

The Madison WI shop says there is an after market kit that can go to my rear seats. I thought he said the switches would not be the ones center box, but would go on the side of the seat. (I was looking for the rear seats.)

That didn't jazz me too much because I like things looking original. I have not seen a finished product so I cannot comment either way other than to say there are options.

Good luck
