What kind of Rear Seat Entertainment do you use?

I am looking into putting Rear Seat Entertainment into our 2007 R-Class. There are so many new things on the market and this technology is just constantly changing.

Here are my thoughts / questions.

Should I put in LCD monitors without the DVD player built in to deal with future technology changes vs limiting ourselves to DVD - if so what do you recommend?

Should I just go with Vizualogic with the built in DVD player since it might be an easier install.

If day time - you can ask them to observe clouds above.

If night time - ask them to observer night stars.

...after opening the PANO ROOF though.

It will not work for a long long trip.
You will get repeated questions " Are we there yet?".

This thread has certainly gone off the rails...
Not a single post (including this one) has offered sf280 any assistance whatsoever.

I agree with Patrick...we have been using Best Buys Insignia dual screen about 4 years now and it is still working in the ML...Thinking about getting the Phillips dual screen units for our newly acquired E420.

Personally, I would not spend a lot of money on an entertainment center with technology changing so quickly. Best advice I can give...good luck.

no worries, I have been a member here for 7+ years and spend too much time in Off Topic anyways

I am leaning toward some portable player I can hang on the seat.

I've been noodling this dilemma, too, in deciding what to order when the 2011 facelift comes out. The R went from a nicely-integrated factory-installed system a couple of years back to one that looks as if Shorty's Audio & Radar Emporium screwed it to the backs of the seats on a Saturday morning. I guess it was to accommodate a larger screen . . . but I'm not sure it's progress.

Actually, I believe it's to accomodate the Active head rests.

This iPad thing is great - we really just need something made that will "hold" the iPad against the headrest...perhaps I'll see if someone in China can make them for us for MBWORLD guys at a special price, LOL.
After all, this wouldn't be much more the $5 iPad leather cases that Apple stores sell for $80 - just put some solid velcro straps on them.

p.s. The one bad thing about iPad is that you need to convert all the AVI movies onto MP4 format for storage.

There are already a LOT of iPad headrest mounts on the market. All of the ones that I have seen will work fine with Active Headrests as they clamp to the headrest rails...

Not to go too far off topic, but "there's an app for that." You can now get VLC player on the iphone/ipad so you don't have to convert avi to mp4...

Works well on my iPhone 4.
