Side Window Blinds

Before I get flamed with the standard "you can do anything if you wanna pay", i'm just asking the question...our E500 wagon had the side window blinds, but the new R320 does not. I know at one point (maybe still) these were an option. I realize i'd be retrofitting the plastic door panel, but are these possible to add on in any easy fashion (ie: what's the complexity of the actual shade in the non-exposed door panel). These are sorely missed and while i have blue glass, the sun still gets to my kids. plus the stick on things from Babies R Us and target are really tacky.

Again, just ASKING the question. thanks for any wisdom!

Otherwise after 8 months of ownership and almost 9k miles, we LOVE LOVE LOVE this vehicle and just got 29 MPGs over the weekend with the large luggage box up top!

Doesn't beat my GL320 but it provides something i feel more comfortable letting the kids mess around in

Just a thought...

Why don't you tint the windows with uv protection, you can choose the shades how dark you would prefer its much better cleaner etc.

Just get those $7 shades from Pep boys. The type that the shade retracts - similar to the OEM with the roller bar exposed. You can call it tacky all you want but you don't have to spend a fortune on a silly shade !!!

My kid likes to play with those and has broken two of them (pulled the shade out too far) in a matter of days.

That's exactly my point. Why would you want to spend $$$ on something that can get damaged so easily? At least with the cheap ones you don't worry.

An easy and quick answer: No.

They were an option as of '07, but are no longer available. They have to be ordered that way, according to MBUSA. But, again as you say...anything is possible with enough dead presidents.

To the OP, did you make any progress on your query? I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

They can only be ordered as an option in Europe. The door panels are different all the hardware and tracks are built in. I have looked for years for OEM, unless you want them bad enough to order two new rear doors from Europe. If you can’t measure, cut, or sew or don’t DIY for these you’re going to be out of luck for the look you want. Mine came out looking like they did come from the factory. I have to tell you some people have told me it looks a little like Hurst the car is Black.

If you special order your car in the US, you can specify window shades (I found out too late in the build... still kicking myself over it).

Retro-fit appears to be very difficult... but I supposed finding out if the doors w/shades can be purchased individually is worthwhile.

Otherwise, I really don't see the problem with just sticking on some shades... Really, we drive $60K R-classes, not $200K+ RR or Bentley, it will not be tacky. The problem is finding ones with good suction cups, all the ones I tried fall off in minutes!

OK I'll keep looking. Just wanted to see if anyone got part numbers. Otherwise stock will be the way to go for me.
