has anyone encountered this: looking at a used MB and you are very interested but take your time. suddenly you recieve an email stating that the car has been bought by a person from another state who paid list price and will fly in and drive home. the email asks if you want to make a counter offer. not responding to the email 2 days later you recieve anotherone that the deal didn't go thru but it could at any minute so you had better buy the car. let me know if this sounds familiar.

could a very old scam to drive the price be any more obvious? of course you could always call the dealer's bluff by telling them that you will gladly increase your offer when they provide the name and address of the phantom out-of-state buyer...

If true, the dealer has a "contract" with the other buyer which he cannot violate. Since he's still offering the car to you, it seems unlikely.
